I gotta say. I love this. Perfectly fits in with everything. I thought this was terrible at first, but love the shade of blue and the the size of it. It even has a decent effect on the skyline from some angles like the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Not an awarding winning building, but it fits in well among its neighbors. It is suppose to be a courthouse and it should serve its purpose well. Basically, the building will accomplish what it was designed to do.

Today, it was time to remove that red crane from the roof...causing many traffic woes on 15th. You can see some of it sitting on the trailer in this photo...

They always do that. They usually remove the crane before the cladding is done. I always assumed they just lower it down from the roof.

PBS recently did a documentary on skyscrapers. The one episode in about the building in London shows how they put up the facade. If you have Comcast it is in the on demand section if you have a free hour.

Was walking by this with my wife about a week ago. She looked up and asked "what do you think happened to that building? It's all messed up at the top." I told her it was still under construction. She looked confused, and said, "but isn't it an old building?"

LOL. Maybe that means the design succeeded in achieving that perfect 60's retro look. I actually like this one.

You wanna see your wife get really confused? Walk down a few blocks to 1900 Arch Street....see what she thinks of it? Sorry, for making fun, but it really is pathetic. This one has an excuse, it's for the city...they don't really care about architecture.

I wish they would fill in that open rectangle with something less barren-looking than the bare concrete currently there.

The worst part is the mechanical and HVAC housing on the roof which is very visible from street level. It's a hideous box clad in what looks like vertical vinyl siding. It kinda looks like they dropped a mobile trailer up there. Not sure if these architects did this or not, but quite often they will artistically omit the mechanical structure from design renderings.

Still, can it really be that costly to come up with an artistic and elegant solution to hiding these structures?
