Wonderful Waterloo is Down

The webmaster appears to have been awk for the past few days. Should we consider migrating?

An alternate Waterloo site has been set up, but I have not been successful in logging on. I would have no problem sticking with SSP.

There was once a Waterloo subsection here I believe. I think it was removed due to inactivity.

It's a completely independent site, so you need to register again there.

Realistically the breadth of discussion that happened at WW can't be replicated here, I think.

I was never a huge fan of how the board was set up at WW. It was never clear to me how to check for new activity in subforums without navigating to them.

Maybe your registration just didn't go through? I don't see your username in the list of members there.

I think you're right, and thanks for the link. I'll register there- I will miss Wonderful Waterloo if it's really going to be gone for good. Hopefully the community lives on in a different home.

Is there anyway to change that "Down for upgrades" message to inform people about the old site? It took me a few days to remember about this board, which led me to the new one.

Hopefully we can keep some of the data intact - it was a great resource.

Also Jeremy - it's moot now, but there was a button labeled New along the top once you were in the forums. If you were logged in it would only show what you hadn't previously viewed. Hopefully a feature we can revive on the new site.

The problem is that the sole owner/admin of Wonderful Waterloo does not seem interested in helping the community migrate elsewhere.

If he was, the message wouldn't be there in the first place.

Tried to use that link to go to the site, and got this charming message ...

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /forum/ on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Yeah, the link doesn't work as posted. Removing /forum/ from the link tends to work:

If you guys want to migrate back, you're certainly welcome. We run a professional and stable forum here.

If there is enough traffic, K-W Local can easily be recreated.

Some of us never left. I've been on both, as have a number of others. Meanwhile the new Waterloo Region Forum is already picking up steam.
