If that's the case, really hope those grey squares aren't what the final building envelope will be clad with... Would make everything a whole lot more monolithic and bland than the renders would indicate.

Talked to someone over at Dialog a month ago and he was saying they are going with SS, just looking at the type of panels now.

SS will look 100 times better than alum... and more durable.

^ bingo, Stainless Steel can be polished up to look like a mirror, or sanded down to look like Aluminum. I hope we see a variety of polishes on the metal to give some contrast to the building.

Pro tip: Brushed is good for accent, not field.

If there is a silver lining to be found in the IGF fallout, I will say that little if any of it has any kind of effect on the actual fan experience. Most of the problems are headaches (some costly, hence the lawsuit) for the Bombers to deal with... things like inadequate heat in the administrative offices, snowmelt damaging some suites in the offseason, the fact that the beer kegs have to be hand-carted to the various kiosks, etc.

Maybe it is not a shrine to attention to mechanical engineering detail, but as a place to watch a football game, the stadium definitely works very well.

Get ready for the pitch...

Flames poised to reveal plans for downtown arena

Jason Markusoff, Calgary Herald
March 5, 2015

Calgarians are weeks away from learning the Flames’ plans for a new downtown arena, team CEO Ken King said Thursday.

After years of being vague about his ambitious project’s timeline, he told radio station KISS 95.9 the team is ready to divulge the vision for and proposed location of Saddledome’s replacement.

“When you see our project, people are just going to love it,” King said. “We’re not going to sneak in here and steal money from the city.”

Mayor Naheed Nenshi hasn’t yet heard what sort of civic funding arrangement the Calgary Flames may be seeking for the arena. He’s been promised he’d get briefed on the plans before King goes public, but the mayor has long been skeptical about financial assistance for an arena project.
