They are the main media entitiy interested in this space. The only down side is that this will only be a secondary-type studio, the plan is to keep their main studio and operations in Golden Valley. So as good as this sounds, I can't imagine they will require much space.

United Properties has released a new rendering of their project that will compete with the 80-story Duval tower for the Nicollet Hotel site.

Thanks! I saw it on SSC. The Duval is still my favorite for that location....move the UP proposal somewhere else!

Duval's 80 story proposal for the Nicollet Hotel block has been denied by the city due to financial concerns.

Sounds like the Nye's building will be saved and incorporated into a development to include a 29 story luxury apartment tower.

Minneapolis has chosen the United Properties proposal for the Nicollet Hotel block. 36 stories (although a Tweet came out later today saying that 8-12 stories may be added to the project). Animated LED lighting will recall the nearby Mississippi River:

This project has now increased to 20 stories and is expected to start before the end of the year.

Many things happening in downtown Minneapolis. But here's a quick update of the "Ritz Block" of Nicollet Mall between 3rd and 4th Streets. Two 30-story towers proposed by Opus Development. View from SW with the new Xcel Energy HQ on the right.

Note to OPUS: Putting warm-colored tones on the ground floor of your rendering doesn't mean you are making a good street presence. We're not that stupid.

Thanks Avian, that's the first full size picture I've seen of that development, every other one seems to be thumbnail sized.
Looks nice! I like the re-orientation of the buildings, I just wish they would have thought bigger on this block, maybe go with one larger tower versus 2 - 30 story buildings.
At least these have a littel different character.

Even having the roofs of both buildings have some sort of variation. Have one building's roof slop up east and the other west or put a large lighted mast on the other.

NE Homer: I agree. Maybe one tower 40 floors & 26-30 floors for the other!
