I like the singular identity that the architecture in Saint Louis exudes. There's quite a bit of variation, but it all definitely belongs to one city... it looks to be quite the city. Nice pictures.

When people say historical cities you always hear about Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Boston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Baltimore etc. I've always found it to be an utter travesty that St. Louis is not mentioned more often in the historical narrative of American cities. This thread proves why!

I think the history lessons need to start at home. Schoolchildren in St. Louis should be required to complete a series of classes called St. Louis Studies. In fact, all school children in the old original 314 area code, if not all of Missouri, should take St. Louis Studies.

Don't forget the old eastern riverfront cities in the Metro East some of them are more connected with the city than most of St. Louis County and Missouri are, but the entire STL metro should definetly be required and maybe some of the suburban kids might finally realize what kind of city they live next to and re-populate St. Louis City.

Agreed, Metro East should be included. As well as any Illinois & Missouri town within the sphere of influence. A lot of the small towns don't understand how their economies & cultures are related to St. Louis. It goes both ways, by the way. A region that loves it's city and a city that loves it's region is likely to be stronger, healthier & more appealing. Sorry to hijack thread! I will stop! We got on one of my subjects!
