LONDON | New Snow Dome

The new Snow Dome and Ice Rink will be built at the Westfield Stratford City close to the 2012 Olympic Site and Lee Valley Sports Facilities in London.

Around 20,000 square metres of piste will be created using “real” snow, with the longest of several runs expected to be 300 metres. There will also be snowboard ramps, toboggan runs, an ice-skating rink and “snow-play” zones for children.

The year-round attraction hopes to attract up to three million visitors a year and could be ready to open its doors in 2015.

Perhaps now that Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms are being redeveloped, it might be a good idea for the London Freeze Festival to relocate to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will be close to the new ski dome, allowing skiers and snowboarders to use the indoor venue to warm up for the main outdoor competition venue, with lots of space for music and other festival activities available in the park. The Queen Elizabeth Park also has a wonderful backdrop in the Arcelor Mittal Orbit, the Canary Wharf and City Skylines and the beautiful park itself. On a further positive ski related note, the Eurostar Ski Trains from London St Pancras will now be running direct to the French Alps, so no more changing stations in Paris, although many people had of Breakfast in London, Lunch in Paris and Dinner in the Alps, still it's a much better and far quicker service from December 2013.
