I think the good people of San Jose would be shocked and very upset at any notion of the Sharks playing in San Francisco.

Also, of course, the city isn't building this facility. The Warriors owners are. So I doubt they'd want to share it.

But Chase Center will, I think, be also a civic asset for non-sports events like large-scale concerts--that's one way to recoup some of the cost. It's a sensitive subject because of the proximity to UC's Cancer and Women's Hospital which was used as an excuse to block construction--ambulances couldn't get through the area's traffic etc blah/blah--but given the small amount of parking and thus the small amount of cars arriving for events, I expect them.

A new webcam (# 7) positioned within the arena itself to continue to show internal construction progress once the roof is sealed is now online.

. . . after some back and forth with the team’s neighbors at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, the San Francisco Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure voted unanimously last week to approve the 68-by-38-foot “video board” that will hang over the arena’s Third Street entrance facing the public plaza.

“We can use it for traffic and event updates, education, art — even things like movie nights in the plaza,” Warriors spokesman P.J. Johnston said.

While NBA contracts might prevent the Warriors from telecasting games being played inside the arena, the team might show out-of-town games or even other sporting events — at least, Johnston said, “that’s the kind of thing we are hoping for.”

The deal, of course, also allows for advertising event sponsors, but that is limited to between two hours before and one hour after a game, concert or other show.

Plus, the team got the go-ahead to put a lighted Chase Center sign of up to 176 feet by 200 feet across the arena’s rooftop. It won’t be visible from the street, but it will be clear as a bell for the blimp shot.

I love it. I was hoping they would add a TV outside so if the Warriors or other sporting events happen, they will display it and show the crowd cheering. Something like how Toronto has an event outside of their arena for Raptors/Maple Leaf games

Mission Bay Ferry Clears Environmental Hurdle
June 20, 2018

If the Port’s plans are approved as proposed, and dredging commences in mid-2019 as currently envisioned, San Francisco’s future Mission Bay Ferry Landing near the intersection of Terry A. Francois Boulevard and 16th Street, cater-corner to Chase Center and adjacent to the future Bayfront Park, could be now operational as early as the first quarter of 2021, as newly rendered below.
Mission Bay Ferry Landing Rendering

A proposed Water Taxi Landing, which is to be located approximately 400 feet south of the proposed Ferry Landing, adjacent to Agua Vista Park, could be operational six months earlier (August 2020).

And in addition to peak hour services to and from Alameda-Oakland, Vallejo and potentially Larkspur, linked via San Francisco’s Ferry Building terminal, special event services would be provided for all scheduled Golden State Warriors’ games and around 20 other big evening or weekend events at the Chase Center . . . .

The facades are going up on the arena and south tower.

You can see both on the webcam - Chase Center & Warriors Mixed Use #1 - View 1 and 2

I'm starting to think the arena isn't going to be very conspicuous from Third St, tucked behind the office buildings. maybe when all the fancy lights are on it will be a different story, but I'm definitely wondering.

The Metropolitan Opera isn't very conspicuous from the front of Lincoln Center either but no one's forgotten it's there :

Agreed. SF has waited long enough for a facility of this size. I guess the best thing about being practically the last major city to have an arena is that we're getting a truly state of the art arena now!
