^Exactly.

While surface parking lots are not the greatest use of space they can be very useful which was my point all along, they are far from being, "nothing of any value to anyone." I would still prefer to see them developed into high-rises but to suggest they are useless is ridiculous. I can count on one hand the number of useless lots downtown but for some reason Aastra seems to have confused Detroit with Victoria.

Steve, the city needs to do with some of the other parkades what they did to the Yates St. parkade in the '80's and add a couple more levels.

I didn't realize that they had added floors to the View Street Parkade. I know that it depends if the foundation can support extra floors. I remember when David Chard wanted to add two floors to the Juliet half way through developments but he was told by engineers that the foundation couldn't support the extra floors so he didn't go to council with the request. That said as these lots get developed one after the other the City needs to address added parking.

Good gravy. Why do you go off on these sorts of benders, man? You know what we're talking about here. We're talking about architectural value, historical value, uniqueness, heritage, nostalgia... those sorts of things.

A freakin' plain metal garbage can have the sort of "value" that you're describing. It's practical. You use it for something. Great. But nobody (except you and maybe the folks at the Hallmark Society) would shed a tear when a plain metal garbage can gets replaced.

Heck, some redevelopments will actually increase the amount of parking as compared to the surface lot. If all you care about is raw functionality then you should want those surface lots to be redeveloped with extensive underground parking.

No, not the View St. parkade, the Yates St. parkade. They added 2-3 levels of parking around 1990. If they can, they should probably add that to the Broughton St. and Fisgard St. parkades.

Even though I have quoted your exact words Aastra, i'm obviously not going to get through to you. I'll just keep saying what I mean and meaning what I say.

I dont know why the blue jays game is on at 9 am tomorrow. I will probably miss it.

I went downtown today. All the parkades were full luckily I didnt need to spend much time downtown so I made a parking spot on the side of fort street for several minutes. If we lose more lots we will need a new parkade downtown. That's my thoughts anyways.

The Azzurro, a 7 story mixed use development is topped out:

The Jukebox, a long-awaited 8 story residential building has finally started construction, leaving only one lot downtown of no value to anyone

Here's the 13 story 1075 Pandora well underway:

And finally, the 14 story Hudson Walk 2:

I thought the hudson walk 2 was 15 stories tall.

The Azzurro should have been taller.

The 14 story mixed residential building at uptown mall was passed at Saanich municipal meeting last night. (Thursday October 25th) It will be the tallest building in Saanich. I wish they would have gone with more height though. It looks like a fat blob of a building.
