That re-assures me a bit!
oh good! I'm happy to hear!

can you imagine how the city will look in even 5 years

compared to say 2 years ago

It's good to hear this project is still moving along, albeit a little slower than I'd like... but you can't have it all, I guess. Thanks for the update, Townie.

Just a friendly bump to remind us all of this development slated for construction this summer. DT west end will look very different in the next couple of years... Yay!

this one is full steam ahead right?

This summer is going to be crazy with all the projects that will actually be under construction..

Deacon, steele hotel, (hopefully the hilton), the new hotel on Kenmount road, the star of the sea, the convention centre, the marriott extension, mix and marconi, (I know of a couple more that will be starting that we haven't heard of in a very long time ) the condos on lemarchant .. the kenmount proposal and Glencrest wants to get started as well as everything in pleasantville and in the stavanger area ... crazy

We'd better start bringing our boys (and gals) home from Alberta.

When I saw that someone posted here I got a bit too excited haha! But yeah, In 10 years with Deacon, Hilton, Fortis, and the Hilton phase 2 residential building (which I pray will be at least 16, or more, stories to add some variety to our rather flat-topped skyline!) and hopefully more taller proposals in the coming years, the west end is going to be completely transformed from the grassy ghetto it was 2 years ago (and really, still is now!)

I think we are also proving that a few people such as ourselves can make a huge difference in the future of our city. Can't wait for deacon to begin construction sometime this year!

I assume you mean the hotel at the bottom of Prescott Street? It will be good to see something fill that blasted parking lot (literally blasted and the british-ish term of a nuesence! it's a double meaning ) I didn't really like the look of the design as the materials looked really cheap, but then again we never really saw any high quality renders either.

Unless we haven't heard of this project in like 45 years in which case they might be building the long forgotten hotel on top of Atlantic Place

As far as I know this project is still stalled. I think it was wishful thinking on the developers part when they told townie last fall that construction would start this summer.

Jeddy might be talking about the condo on Duckworth Street that is going where the old fire station and the Crazy Horse is.

My guess is that it's stalled for the time being.. lack of tenants probably. Even though it's only 10 stories I feel like it will add so much to the west end skyline. Really hope it starts this summer!

I'm thinking this ones cancelled now.. I was over by the site today and the sign advertising The deacon building "coming soon" is gone.. These are my best theories

1. It's cancelled or indefinitely postponed (most likely)
2. They are redesigning the building to be taller with more glass and a modern design! (I wish)
3. A NIMBY stole the sign because even the image of a taller building in their neighbourhood made them sick to their stomach
4. They took down the sign because they're gonna start digging tomorrow! (Again.. I wish!)

What do ye great wiseman make of these events which have now befallen us?

Jeddy pointed that out to me a little while ago. Not looking good, I think.

This particular proposal seemed too expensive or impractical to build. However, the developer has now accomplished having the site zoned up for higher density, and having this development approved for that site, thus opening it up for another developer. Therefore it is likely they can sell the property at a profit.

The sign could have been damaged ... who knows
I remember they were making bids on getting major tenants like 6 months ago

I had a dream last night that they cancelled the project and built a strip mall there instead.
