Weren't there permits indicating that there would be an Apple store at the base of the new McDonald's HQ? Anyone know what's going on with that?

^ Apple store is news to me. Only thing I've ever heard was a McDonald's and a Walgreens.. Maybe a hair salon too but don't quote me on that one.

^ Great progress at the ole alma mater. Drove by Harrison Hall yesterday, it definitely makes its presence known on 290. Looks like its pretty much topped out as well.

Regarding the Byrne rebuild, will the existing retaining wall east of Morgan remain as is? If so, squeezing 6 lanes (7 lanes after Peoria, accounting for the Taylor St exit ramp) there is going to be tight. Definitely no room for shoulders on that stretch.

UH is getting restored. The white you see there is probably due to the work they are doing on the damaged concrete on the exterior. The plan is to return the building to its original appearance as much as possible (obviously barring the elevated walkways)

Just higher standards it seems. But hey, we'll get a good five years before it starts to crack.
This is Chicago, where we have winters and frost heave. Out here in the burbs I see plenty of money wasted on fancy sidewalks. Nice brick, etc. Looks great for 1-2 years. Then winter takes its toll and it starts to warp and buckle. Looks far worse than concrete after that.
What's the point of this broke state throwing money away on vanity that doesn't last?

I thought this was for a new building? Are the foundations for a bridge or a new wall that looks to be 4-5 feet from the current wall location? I know it’s transit, but since it’s here, I figured I would ask.

^Yes, a new wall approx. 4-5' south of the existing one... If I had more time, I would located the IDOT link to all the maps for the new interchange...

She died in like 1935 - but you will be sure to see up again at the rapture.

With the planned Rush buildings, UIC dorm and if that Harry Potter building ever gets built then the Ike has created its own little canyon pretty well up to Ashland now! Very nice.

Just spoke to the owner of 1551 W North Ave as they have begun removing the tanks from under the gas station. Owner said that it is a completely new design that was approved by the alderman. Expects caissons by June.

Kind of relieved honestly. I wasn't sold. South Works needs to be developed piecemeal following a flexible master plan/guideline that can evolve if need be as market forces change. The build it all at once concept was probably never going to happen at SW in hindsight, nor should it. If it takes another 20 years for demand to develop SW, I think it's worth the wait than to squander it on some low density modular home development.

Gotta say - the interior actually doesn't look half bad. I'm glad they were reading this forum and decided on the international menu items
