Cancelled

Greg Smith says 60-story tower was ‘too big for us'; new plan is 28 stories

Quote:
Urban Visions has dropped its plans for 888 Tower — which was first announced as 77 stories, and then scaled back to 60 — on the full block it owns between Second and Third avenues, and Marion and Columbia streets.

Wasted opportunity. They should sell the parcel and give it to a competent developer who has ambitious plans. Prime real estate in the heart of the CBD and they downsize by 46%.

Its a sacrilege.

That sucks, although doesn't Seattle have a potential tallest (like over 1000') in the works? Or is that dead too?

This building would have been awesome though.

Not to gripe, but over here on the other side of the pond they are spitting up 1,000 and even 2,000 footers like crazy. It is indeed super annoying that Seattle can't even pull off one lousy 1,000 footer and if there is even a rumor it's because it's 'too big' or 'too tall' for zoning... Seriously?! Then again buildings built back there in the US are built with 'quality' and high standard.

LA and San Fran in that regard are off to a 'good start...'

I'm okay with it being shorter where it is. Any taller and it would block too much of F5. Seattle needs a deeper skyline.

Urban Visions, NBBJ tweak ‘exoskeleton' tower on Third

Quote:
On a half-block site it already owns, Urban Visions and architect NBBJ are planning a new 36-story office tower at 801 Third Ave. The project, dubbed The Net for its exoskeleton-emphasizing design, hasn't changed much since its last design review in May 2018.

The sun fins and folded facade remain from last year's proposal. The tenant entrance has been moved slightly south on Third.

However, the roof deck will actually be terraced downward from levels 36 to 34, with landscaping and seating for tenants.

About 15,000 square feet of the ground floor will be public space, with some combination of retail, cafe and hang-out areas.

Greg Smith of Urban Visions has said that construction won't begin until after signing a tenant (or tenants).

That's not a bad looking tower, but man, what a huge downsizing. I'd sort of forgotten about this one and then saw the address that looked familiar. What a letdown.
