This one is looking good. Love the facade especially that fronts Civic Center Blvd.

^ Just noticed that the colors are much more visible from street level than I had realized, and kind of undulate as they expand and contract on the horizontal surfaces of the overhangs.

Me likey!

50 years from now

I have high hopes for this building and think it's a pretty neat design, especially considering it's for kids, but I'm a little concerned that in 50 years people are going to ask what were they thinking. With all the construction around it in the photos is doesn't look, to me, all that great but maybe when everything's done I'll feel different.

Don't be concerned, really. In 50 years, this will still look okay. Actually, when I first saw the renderings, I thought oh my...not that. But as construction progressed, it was growing on me quickly. When I first saw the different colors on the façade, I thought, how childish..but you know what? IT IS FOR CHILDREN! I'm really liking it a lot. I think it will stand the test of time, really.

Good point. Also I haven't seen it in person yet so that might sway my thoughts.

I really think the design of this building is genius. Remember what this building signifies to a sick child: it's a place where they have to go to experience what will be painful, but ultimately healing treatment. Creating a colorful, playful, and ultimately light design takes that initial threat and apprehension away from a child who approaches it for the first time, and makes it seem like a "fun" place they may actually want to go to. As institutional designs go, this is very well done.

^^ I agree with you completely. Brilliant design. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures or not, but along the top and bottom of the windows are children's hand-prints.

Yes agree - the whole facility is quite remarkable in this sense from this perspective. A treasure for the area and even moreso for the work they do
