^ Just fantastic. Midtown was already massive back in the day, hard to believe it's booming and expanding, especially westwards. MW / HY will add another city within the city. I mean the Hudson Yards alone would make a very nice skyline in any American city, yet in New York it will be only one of many clusters. With JC / LIC / DoBro booming the whole skyline will become enormous.

Exciting times!

Wow! Thanks for that chris. Crazy how the difference a few years from now will be even more drastic.

NY is essentially doubling its quantity of skyscrapers. Exciting times.

Just curious, someone in the 2WTC thread mentioned that there are other supertalls planned for downtown besides the 2 other WTC towers? Off the top of my head I can think of three but none are very definite.

125 Greenwich (likely only 900')
80 South Street (rumors were of a 1400+ building but not many facts to back it up)

There was also another ~1000' proposal south of the WTC I believe but I forget the name.

Am I missing any? These don't seem like very concrete projects but if they are built downtown will look just insane.

I also believe 99 Hudson street is supposed to start construction in Jersey city this summer (recently read that on SSC).

Supertalls in the works in Lower Manhattan:

- 3WTC, 1,155ft (352m) U/C --> construction is well under way.
- 2WTC, 1,349ft (411m) ON HOLD --> should be U/C by next year. Possible Redesign.
- 125 Greenwich Street, 1,356ft (413m) PREP --> should be U/C soon, height may change.
- 42 Trinity Place, 1,015ft (309m) PRO --> not much is known, but chances are good this will go forward.
- 80 South Street, 1,018ft (310m) PRO --> will be built, may get a height boost.
- 45 Broad Street --> could yield a supertall, see here. Depends on the developer and the assemblage.
- 55 Broad Street --> could be combined with 45 Broad Street and hence yield a megatower.
- 5WTC --> will most likely be hotel / residential and maybe a supertall.

I didn't even notice the ESB at first. IDK if thats a good thing or not...

This rendering though not being the whole picture. Missing a couple, and 2030 is a long ways coming in real estate terms for this city. For all we know, this could be the beginning.

But what is true is that the ESB will not be in the top 10 in terms of height by 2030. Midtown Rezoning will yield some large towers.

I also didn't notice WTC 3 (already under construction) or WTC 2 (assuming it gets built).

Great rendering although a whole bunch of towers (already U/C) is missing. Also, we'll get that skyline shot by 2020! By 2030 New York will have at least one megatall and many other large towers.

EDIT: 15 East 30th Street is now 730ft/223m and 48 floors.

Another supertall for New York Wooow!!!

http://www.yimbynews.com/2015/05/rev...park-lane.html

Revealed: 1 Park Lane, at 36 Central Park South, 1,210-Foot Tall Condo Tower Replacing the Helmsley Park Lane

Quote:
At 1,210 feet, 1 Park Lane will rank as the fourth tallest residential tower in New York City, and the ninth tallest overall building. It will also help bridge the gap in the skyline between the larger towers of 57th Street, and buildings like 53 West 53rd Street, One57, and 220 Central Park South, which will all stand within 50 feet of the 1,000-foot mark.
Quote:
Windows will measure 10×14 feet, while ceilings on every floor will stand 15’5″ tall. It appears the developers will maximize views by gutting the vast majority of the existing Helmsley Building and turning it into an enormous foyer, which will allow them to stack the extra floorspace up top.

Per the documents, upon “completion in 2020, the condominium will be the finest, most elegant and luxurious condominium apartment building in both New York City and the world. It will be the most desired address for the world’s rich and powerful.”

Amenities will span 40,000 square feet, including a library, playroom, 100-foot swimming pool, a branded spa, and a private restaurant. The tower will also have a private port-cochere (hence the address 1 Park Lane, as the assemblage spans through the block from 58th to 59th Streets). Every residence will also have an outdoor terrace.

The tower is 1,210' with 15'5'' ceilings, so my guess is around 80 real floors. Btw I sooo wanted a 1,200 footer here ... adding some variety in height @57th St corridor.

Perfect addition!!

The 57th St canyon will be insane! So far we have (confirmed):

1. 217 West 57th Street, 1,795ft (547m), [roof 1,530ft / 466m] aka Nordstrom, U/C
2. 111 West 57th Street, 1,428ft (435m) aka Steinway, almost U/C
3. 432 Park Avenue, 1,397ft (426m) T/O
4. 1 Park Lane, 1,210ft (369m) APP
5. 53W53, 1,050ft (320m) aka Verre, U/C
6. One57, 1,005ft (306m), COM
7. 220 Central Park South, 950ft (290m), U/C
8. 425 Park Avenue, 893ft (272m) APP
9. 520 Park Avenue, 781ft (238m), U/C
10. 250 East 57th Street, 715ft (218m), U/C

And there are many other sites like Solow, Shvo, 31W57th, 237 Park etc..

Had a shitty day at work but this cheered me up.

Just the beginning I'm hoping.

You could tell we are being spoiled because when I read the "1210 ft" portion, I was like, o, a short one. I guess its good though when 1200 feet is starting to feel tiny or at least "average".

1st phase of the Midtown rezoning was approved today. Expect more to come. While the luxury market is strong, what the city needs is more class-a space. I see the trend in supertalls morphing from skinny to very bulky. From primarily residential to multi-use, composed mostly of office, with hotel mixed in and some nice retail at the base.

I see 1 Vanderbilt essentially as being the granddaddy which will start the supertall boom in Midtown East. Just as One57 was the granddaddy who began the 57th Street revolution.

With supertalls in Lower Manhattan, the success of the WTC complex, and the shift in the market to include much more media and tech will provide ample opportunities for developers to reach for the skies. But lets not forget Brooklyn. A lot of financing companies are moving their operations to DoBro and even LIC. Two nodes which can support a future supertall boom.

This is all assuming the economy for the city, and the world is okay. It could all come crashing down. That's the double-edge sword we play with. While NYC is in a position to weather a big crash, it will still mess it up in terms of projects. So I say take the boom as a gift, and be cautiously optimistic about the future.

But for now....

Distance between Nordstrom/220CPS and 250E57th: 0.9 miles (1,45km). Supertalls so far: 6.

Pure insanity!

PS: How things are going New York will have more supertalls located in one single street than any other city in the world (except maybe Dubai).

Impressed but NYC needs more!!

I also wish we would get just as excited for floor count as we do for height. 100 floors should be the new 1000 footer! Having said that, 80 floors is excellent!
