Lone Elk Park - St. Louis

Lone Elk Park is a wildlife management area in southwest suburban St. Louis County nestled in the Ozark foothills (<----really cool map of SW St. Louis County). Lone Elk Park is nearly 600-acres and accessible to the public. The wildlife area is stocked with bison, wild turkey, waterfowl, elk and deer. The World Bird Sanctuary is also at the park.

Cars are allowed, but motorcycles are prohibited. Domestic animals are not allowed, even if confined in a vehicle. Once you enter the park there are no barriers between you (your car) and the wild life, including bison and elk. Bison have been known to damage cars. Elk have been known to walk along the side of cars unafraid. Elk have also disturbed people picnicking.

A really cool park to be located in a largely urbanized area.

It looks like there's a lot more than a lone elk wandering around that park!

Nice pictures. Is this park in the city of St Louis? It looks like it's right near the city.

Naw, the park isn't in the City of St. Louis. It is about 20 miles SW of downtown St. Louis, and I would guess about 15 miles from the City of St. Louis border. The park, which is a county park, is located in St. Louis County near I-44.
