$500 million development on McDonald's Plaza site in Oak Brook gets final approval

Hines via Chicago Tribune

Quote:
Chuck FieldmanContact Reporter - Pioneer Press

The Oak Brook Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday to give final approval for a $500 million mixed-use project on the McDonald’s Plaza site after deferring a vote two weeks earlier because of concerns that some of the planned rental apartments could be too small.

Ensuing discussions with the developer, Hines, resulted in an agreement that there will be a minimum apartment size of approximately 700 square feet and that no more than 25 of the planned 250 units will be 700 to 725 square feet. more

Interesting. I'll be able to see that from my office. I'll take pictures when it gets going.

I did some quick digging for site plans, will do more later. I only found this from a Trib article from last June.

I don't see a building that matches what Tom posted above. But these were all concepts, so who knows how it will all come together.

Also note: Somewhere in the background of that image, one of the parking lots, is where Lucian Lagrange's "Tenpenny Tower" proposal from last year will be.

That building is supposed to go up on the parking lot where Spring Road turns into 16th Street. . .

Haven't seen any activity there yet. . .

Right, thanks. So it's that black parking lot upper center, just to the left of the x-shaped building (doubletree hotel) and all the trees.

Refresher on that tower since we're talking Oak Brook on this page.

Do you happen to know what is going on with that Skokie project?
I have been told that the pause on the Skokie project is due to pending government work and approvals. The village is scheduled to perform utility work on Oakton the first few weeks of June, after which construction is scheduled to resume. Currently, concrete panels for the project are being manufactured and stored at a nearby facility and it remains on schedule.

Maybe you're confusing that site with what is now the stand alone Shake Shack which was recently built or the huge new fitness center they're building on the north side of the mall. . . this lot hasn't been touched yet. . . I can see it from my office. . .

Hey Tom, since you’re in Oak Brook too, do you know what’s happening at York Road and 294? Just north of 22nd street and the Hub Group’s building?

It’s been an abandoned parking lot for years, but now there’s a crew all over it tearing it up. Are they just clearing the site, or is this the start of construction for something?

Multifamily development along Northwest Highway

Two projects, that, while not as impressive as many of the projects on this forum, are important nonetheless since most of these new residents will hop on the yellow line into Ogilvie.

Yes it is. I Used to use the line a hell of a lot but not as much in the past.

I still do know daily commuters from Crystal Lake to their jobs DT. Lawyers and stock traders that have million dollar homes on golf courses with some of the best PUBLIC HS districts in the State.

They can take an express, seep, work on the way to work and decompress and have a nap or a drink on the way home and be in bliss.

Either playing 18 holes or more likely attending their children's sport functions.

These are happy folks that do not look upon living in tranquility and do not consider themselves monsters nor their family to be monsters for not living in the city limits. BTW most of these monsters have 3 children or more, that must make them even more monstrous than one could even imagine.

Talk about 4 car garages and 4 or more cars... Common esp with kids that are of driving age. And Yep people Still commute on Metra and do it every single work day.

Not everyone choses to bicycle to work every day. Some families have larger views on their choice of where they raise their Children. In that same state of mind in a lot of posters here think that TUP is also a monster for living in a northern burb...…

I would love to live in his location, because it is really a nice well to do town with also Metra access and good public schools,.I suspect it is for his kids and also close to work I would assume.

Speaking of Mount Prospect, there was a blurb in the Daily Herald (sorry, I don't have a link), that the Village is looking to add another rail crossing downtown, maybe shift the Metra platforms to not block traffic as much when trains stop. Generally trying to improve flow. Hopefully that results in a couple more lots being zoned for TOD.

I thought construction had started in Arlington Heights, but they’re just using the site for staging for a downtown sewer line replacement.

I need to make a trip out to OP. Haven’t been there since about 2014

Last time I went there were some sizable vacant lots, which are now filled out by these large new towers. Can’t wait to see the effect in person
