From the train it looked like a backhoe moving around the site and a few guys in construction hats milling about.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing myself. When you see the architectural drawing it gives you the impression that the base is squeezed into a much narrower plot of land.

^ I think a lot of us, myself included, had assumed this one wouldn't make it during this cycle. Speculation about a slowdown in sales, the surprising argument that this level of luxury wouldn't succeed in this part of Chicago, and several workarounds to the floorplates made it seem like the development and sales team wasn't hitting their goals.

But here we are!

Also I think there is even some land left over at the SE corner on wabash to the right behind the 910 michigan building. Is that a separate parcel with separate ownership? Is that staying a parking lot? will it be part of the building somehow? anyone have any info on this?

I tend to think a lot of people here succumb to groupthink and assumption. Nothing coming from official sources suggested that this wasn't going to happen. The developer said quite a while ago that construction would occur in Q4 2019, why wouldn't people wait till then before jumping to conclusions is beyond me.
