I believe the crane operator from 8th & Hope is moving into the 3rd crane at Wilshire Grand. He actually posted on SSC.

I hope the excitement surrounding this tower leads to more supertalls being built.

The cab for the 3rd crane was being installed earlier today. No pictures as I was driving a moving truck (fun!).

Looks like it's for the tower. The base for the crane can be seen in the pictures above.

A cheers to that. L.A. has seen an increase in construction activity. A lot of towers going up. Great news for the West Coast gaining two super talls, in two cities, plus they will be the tallest in the cities (L.A. and S.F.)

Now we just need Seattle to get a super tall. Its good to hear other large skyscrapers are being built outside NY and Chicago. Miami will soon get its own, possibly a couple. Anyways, a good period for a lot of these cities.

thanks for the awesome update unioniron433, I'm not sure how to get the pic actually visible on the page but one way to at least provide a link is to set up a flickr account then share them to here

So there was a special on TV last week that I finally got to watch today called "Strip the City : Los Angeles" I think it was on the History channel or Travel Channel.... but anyway. on the show they did a 10 minute in depth computer model of the Wilshire Grand and showed how the building will weather in an earthquake. They talked to Chris martin before the big pour occurred while he was on site. So apparently there will be NO interior columns. There will be an exterior skeleton supporting each floor, a massive reinforced concrete center and cross bracings at ground level and cross bracings midway up the tower. Having an exterior skeleton will allow for sweeping floor plans and greater flexibility in earthquakes according to Chris Martin. I guess that's the reason why we haven't seen much of any floor to floor plans. 2 things that caught me by surprise though is

1. The computer model placed the building at 1,000ft tall from the base to the very top and the spire (aka the needle) being the extra hundred making it on par with US bank tower when it was added into the skyline. actually made it look a bit taller than US bank building and WAY taller than the AON building.

2. One of the construction guys on site said it would be topped out in less than 20 months and the show was filmed in January. so it will be topped out mid-late next year? I thought they were looking at a 2017 completion date? they will be way ahead of schedule...... or was he mistaken...
