I was thinking just a few days ago about how Vandy is already in that conversation with Steinway and CPT. As you can see from QUEENSNYMAN's photos, it's got a way to go though. Still, the spire is supposed to top out sometime in July I believe.

BTW, I haven't been following 45 Broad St and didn't know its height had been increased to 1200 ft. Good to hear!
The BofA tower is not quite accurate as well. The spire looks closer to 1400 ft than 1200 ft. But ofcourse I now this diagram is not meant to be taken for accurate measurements.

Those things are never quite to scale. That's more to give a visual representation of what's new, and it's pretty much all of it.

Meanwhile, all the scale we need for Vandy is taking shape before our eyes...

Slightly OT: Is there a thread for the new project on the other side of Grand Central? The tower in place of the Grand Hyatt. Been talked about as a potential for years and looks like some movement now.

Just a visitor to this thread here. How is this thing over 1000 feet at only 58 stories?

The ceilings are very high. It's what tenants want these days.

The occupied height is about 1050 feet or so but there's a huge crown and spire which bring it to 1,400.

Another supertall coming ????

Ladies and Gentlemen...Could another supertall be coming to the area around Grand Central Station ? The Grand Hyatt Hotel is being redeveloped and the call is for a building of 2 million square feet...bigger than One Vanderbilt. Here is the article from Curbed NY and again this is highly speculative in nature.

42nd will also become an outdoor exhibit of 100 years of evolutionary spire design by the time this is done--Chrysler, 4 Times Square (the best antenna bristle ever), Bank of America and now One Vandy--you could even throw in Piano's NYT tower on 41st for good measure...

That's the one that irks me the most. I'm hoping the new Grand Hyatt tower will give us something worthy of being in the conversation with the greats.

Is it fair to say that the possibility of another supertall rising next to One Vandy doesn't bode well for its observation deck? That view we see in renderings of the Chrysler building isn't going to last long.

Perhaps, but an observation deck doesn't have to tower over its surroundings to be popular and iconic.

30 Rock isn't particularly tall for 2019 standards, and is now surrounded by taller towers, but is crazy popular. In fact I'd argue that 30 Rock is the best Manhattan observation deck.
