Those towers really do complement one another pretty well. It's a good thing their designs aren't more similar so there are some differences.

Lately I've been thinking that the Seaholm might clash with its neighbors because it's so bright white rather than off white or beige. It's even more white than the 360.

Anyone know what kind of restaurant is going in under the bowie? Or if they have picked one yet.

It's gotta be Taco Cabana to replace the one on S. Lamar...

I never put much thought at how the Bowie's slanted roof is like the Monarch's. It actually looks like a cross between the Monarch and Spring Because it has elements of both.

Woah.. Never noticed that, thanks for pointing it out. It really is a hybrid building taking many cues from both.

Wish we'd be able to see Bowie from the East where the separated "wings" are apparent. Feel that's how the building was shown in renders, but an impossible vantage point due to the Monarch.

By the way not sure if anyone has noticed but they added a small strip of light facing west and north along the back higher portion. Saw it driving on Mopac and then a little later on the upper deck of 35 coming back south.

This one is roughly 70% leased and currently filled to about a 55% capacity.

Anyone know why this building isn't lit up at night anymore? It's been at least 2-3 weeks since it's been lit.

I mentioned about this in the off topic section week before last. It's not just Bowie but the Frost Bank Tower crown and One American Center. It could be maybe due to an increase in the cricket population. It happened several years back were there were tons of crickets everywhere. Trying to walk down the street with crickets all over the sidewalks and streets and massing around bright lights. Turned into a nasty mess for awhile as more and more of those guys were squished. Several buildings including Frost went dark until the population boom died down.

I'm not sure if that is what's happening now but there has been an increase in crickets the past few weeks. I've been finding several getting inside the house and would like to figure out where they are getting in so I can seal the area. I think it was the October/November time frame the last time it occurred.

It is cricket mating season. They become more active when the weather gets cooler and the are attracted by bright lights at night and they can fly, so yeah, they have to shut down the lights until the swarm dies down. I remember CNN ran a story about Austin's annual cricket invasion last month saying the summer drought and earlier 60 degree temps have contributed to the earlier than normal swarm. The higher the bright lights, the more they attract tons of them. Ever seen the crickets at UT's football stadium during night games? Its horrible. The mating season lasts about a month or so, then it will be safe to turn the lights back on.

Um, so Austin is known for its urban bat colony, a population of mammals that feeds on insects. And now it's also known for its fall cricket mating season. Can we, you know, maybe engineer a merger of these seemingly hand-in-glove phenomena?

Actually, its our beloved grackles that likes to eat them. And its not just Austin, Waco is also been reported as to being inundated with crickets.

I might suggest a safety improvement for the Bowie as in speed bumps at the exits. We (as pedestrians on the sidewalk) almost got run over this morning when an SUV traveling 15mph barreled out of this location:

This is the future of downtown Austin. Assholes driving SUVs who live downtown.
