I really like how this one is turning out. I love the black - bold choice. Looks cool from 35.

I have just a teensy little update for y'all. The first tower-top sign has been installed on the west-facing facade. It is very visible from Lady Bird Lake and the Congress Avenue Bridge. It's definitely stands out against the black

Wait, what? It's not really going to stay black, right? It looks terrible the way it is. I thought that was just the layer before they put on the real paneling.

I don't think it's going to be black. It's going to be brown stucco, and that's way better.

Wow, if those windows next to the "HOTEL" sign are for room (as opposed to a hallway), I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. So bright. Looks cool, I guess, but I wouldn't like to have those rooms if that's what they are.

Cool photo. It reminds me of a scene from some movie from the 60s or 70s. Just the look of it, the graininess and of the classic "hotel" sign suggests it comes from a different era.

It's a little Rainey St. Noir.

I can imagine Humphrey Bogart sitting in a parked car nearby. Sitting in the darkness of Rainey St. Watching...and waiting...

Wearing a Fedora, long raincoat and smoking a cigarette, all in black and white of course.

And trying to avoid being noticed by the horde of tipsy trendoids stumbling down the poorly lit street and spilling off the inadequate sidewalks as they gawk in horror at the spectre of the squat new apartment block that threatens to ruin the magic that is Rainey St.

IMO this is one of those rare projects that turned out better than the renderings.

The renderings:

To be fair saying it turned out better than those rendering is setting the bar pretty low.

I'm really not sure. I'm not digging the black facade.

The black is what does it for me. The lighting also.
