That pic of The One is great at showing how massive those beams are.

I thought Paclo's CIBC shot was pretty special... Dominion Bldg in the foreground, CN and best of all, Wilkinson Eyre's design conceit of 2 conjoined towers actually works.

The 85-storey luxury condominium and hotel tower, designed by UK starchitects Foster + Partners working with Toronto's Core Architects, will be constructed with 21 elevators by Otis Elevator. These will include three types of elevator, with 11 being "SkyRise" elevators which will carry passengers up the tower at speeds up to 12.5 meters per second. Four of the 11 will be "SkyBuild" elevators, which will rise in step with the tower through the unfinished interior elevator shafts, and will be converted into the standard SkyRise elevators once construction is complete.

So can somebody tell me if the crane in the centre (black and red) will be the crane that goes all the way to the top during the build? I recall another forumer saying it was the smaller crane but that doesn't make sense to me.

The One seems to really be picking up steam now. From some of these angles it already looks 1 floor above street level. Its about time of course, and I hope that the rest of the construction is speedy considering the extensive foundation work they've been doing for 3 years...

They won't need a high capacity crane like that once they get past the podium. They have no storage and are situated at one of the biggest intersection. Two cranes could be very handy. I don't know if the residential floor structure is reinforced concrete. A pump would be handier than another crane if it is. That crane can't be cheap.

I didn't realize there was a formed concrete portion to this tower. I assume it's only for the ground level floors.

If you mean the stuff on the right of the photo, I believe those are elevators 1. up to the residence lobby (and then onward in other elevators) and 2. down to parking. A sort of short annex building just for elevator traffic.

P.S. as you may know, the super-columns will encased/filled concrete.
