So I guess they'll clad all the concrete up there, even around the mechanical penthouse, with glass.

The mechanical will have brick, not glass.

Yea your right. It was a visual illusion because at the time, I didn't realize they extended the top lighting to the roof so it looked as if the blank spot shrunk.

I still think it looks odd, if anything they should outline each of the side bases of the balconies to give it an interesting mix that way the lighting would be connected all the way up. They can simply shield the glow of the light to the balconies by placing panels on the sides of the light. Leaving the gap there just doesn't look good.

Oh, duh, I should have checked the rendering first. That's a shame, because the glass on the concrete is kind of cool.

The gap looks horrible.

My friend was joking that the architects did it just to "troll that online forum".

Yeah, I'm worried it'll look like the lights are burned out. Some of the lighting on some of the buildings is decent, but the lights don't work properly and burn out frequently. Ashton and the Four Seasons Residences seem to be plagued with lights burning out.

It's hard to tell from my crappy phone picture but they definitely are adding horizontal lights to the middle balconies where the vertical light cuts off

Oh, that's awesome. I do still wish the color was green, though. They got lzppjb's suggestion half right so far. It would be nice if they'll have the ability to change colors. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Now I'm hopeful that they are planning to line the angled roof.

By the way, I can see The Bowie's lighting at night from at least one spot within my neighborhood in South Austin. It's only a fleeting glimpse through the trees on one street nearby, but it's definitely there. I can see about a half dozen buildings along that street, and from a couple of other places nearby I can see at least a dozen or more day and night.

Very cool!

Nowadays with LED technology, if developers install lights that can't change color, it's a big missed opportunity.

I agree. While I certainly think the rendering looked a lot better than the reality, if the lighting is anything like what lzppjb's mockup looks like I'll be much happier with the result.

I'm definitely glad the blank space is being filled.

I saw the lights tonight from the interstate. It looked really good from that angle. Also, if you've ever been down MLK at night, The Bowie and The Monarch line up perfectly, and the lights of both form a cool looking + shape. I also saw the JW sign, and it looks slick!

Pretty fuzzy, but here's another pic of the horizontal lights.

Ha! Kinda makes you wonder if the developers secretly monitor this thread. Almost seems like more than a coincidence since we started discussing the lighting and had a great edited "what if" photo then miraculously they just happen to add the lighting the way we invisioned it (except for the green)

Though I'm sure it is a coincidence and that they planned all a long in adding lighting on the balconies. I mean even they could see that having a gap like that with just a single vertical light would be awkward and incomplete looking.

I started out thinking this was going to look like a Pacman building, but those vertical lights look like a lightsaber. They should go with green lights like lzppjb showed so it'll be one of the good guys.

If this lighting is LED sourced, then I'll wager it will change colors. Hopefully we are seeing just white while it is being installed.
