I think it's an improvement but I really don't like the fact that make very little attempt to disguise the parking garage. Is that really the best they could do? Parking garages are ugly.

I liked the original more with that lower section of it being taller and having a different color. This building is going to make a pretty significant impact from the south, especially along Butler Park and the Long Center. It should show up just to the right of 7th & Rio Grande.

Has anyone been by to see if there is any action on this site? Due to the fact that it is so far north and seems to use the space so well this is one of my favorites projects.

Site plan with elevations. It looks like they're asking for a density bonus that will allow them more height. The number of floors isn't different, still 22, but it's gone from 204 feet to 235 feet. That height is from Nueces Street. It's 222 feet 0 inches to the main roof and another 12 feet 11 inches to the top of the mechanical penthouse.

Did they get the density bonus? I thought they were aiming for a June start.

Not sure. I was by the site the other day and it's still just dirt and cars.

Dirt? Was the site cleared?

THey used the corner part of the lot ( where the apt building was torn down) as site prep for all the street construction.

No, it hasn't been cleared. Isn't it just a dirt lot paved with loose limestone gravel? It was kind of hard to tell from the angle, but it looked like a dirt lot to me with no paved asphalt.

I just checked the site on Google Streetview which was updated in February, and the site has been cleared. There used to be an apartment building on that corner (as MichaelB said).

It looks like something is about to start happening at this site. The portable chain link fence sections have been on the site for a little over a week. The orange and white barriers were just delivered in the last day or two. This picture is from today.

I just realized that information about Aspen Heights breaking ground was buried in the Austin Energy control center article. I was so excited about the ECC tower, that I missed where they slipped this in: "Constructive Ventures’ partner in the project is Austin-based developer Aspen Heights, which is about to break ground on an apartment high-rise at Eighth and Nueces streets."

It's not official until the porta potties arrive onsite.

It's not an official ground breaking if you don't have a crapper to use.

Has anyone seen any movement on this site yet? It seems like the smaller projects are all starting without a hitch, it sure would be nice to see this one take off.

Nothing yet, just a bunch of tall grass from what I see.
