New renderings!

And a slight height increase from 33 floors/366' to 34 floors/387'.

Site demo is now well underway with construction anticipated to soon follow.

^ yep. it's still a big hulking podium (which is certainly less than ideal), but the current design is a VAST improvement.

here's a recent site demo pic:

^^^^^^

The Vermont is actually gone now and the building on the SE corner is halfway demolished starting from the back of the building.

it sounds like this one is now officially U/C!

Don't typically see excavations that deep in Chicago. Are the soil conditions in Milwaukee that much different as to make it more feasible/cost effective?

i believe the answer to that question is almost certainly yes. just look at all of the deeply exposed perimeter sheet piling in the pics above that isn't braced at all. when they dig down that deep in chicago, the sheet piling has to be braced with those giant raker beams to prevent cave-in because chicago's sludgy marsh muck that passes for soil is so unstable.

from the pics of this excavation, i'd have to imagine that downtown milwaukee has better soil for excavation purposes.

Milwaukee is built on bluffs overlooking the lake and river, Chicago is built in a swamp. The soil downtown Milwaukee tends to be dry and stable which is not the case here.
