So its a dog park. Not just the off leash area - all of it. No restrictions to keep dogs off grass in other areas? If not it will be a dog park lol the only one around and not a place to let children run in their bare feet...no matter that anyone picks up after their dog. Hopefully we will get a park that is for humans only downtown.

There is a fenced off leash area, community garden, grasses areas for humans, kids, friends, seating, a fountain system similar to the leg but one line and smaller as well as public art and a tribut o the namesake.

This will be a great addition to the Downtown, its residents, workers, guests, visitors, kids AND dogs.

Green space, garden, trees and an area for dogs were all high priorities for residents... Reality is, dogs out number kids about ten to one.

Dogs will be everywhere in the park. There are no restrictions for dogs in any area. So if you don't like dogs, or allergic to dogs or don't want to have sit on a bench with a dog nearby - this park is not for you. We don't have a park in the central area of the City for people without dogs or other animals. I would like to see a no-dogs park...and I bet so would a good many other people.

there also appear to be flowers and trees in the park. what if i'm allergic to flowers and trees... well, at least i don't really like flowers and trees. and there's bees... they can sting you. sigh. the outdoor world is such a scary place. Clearly this park will not be for me. we need a no bees and wasps park.

^^^Larger district park will have large open green spaces for you to enjoy without dogs.

I thought you were moving out of Downtown because of 7-11 anyhow?

Read

http://fortheloveofcities.com/book/

It talks about how the most friendly, inviting and habitable urban centres are often the ones with the highest numbers of dogs.

I am sort of. Will be living out of country for extended chunks of time and for now I am maintaining my place in the core. I will be in Edmonton for when a roof is not needed on Commonwealth lol.

What "Larger district park will have large open green spaces for you to enjoy without dogs"???? Is that in the plans?

Designer pure-breed dogs outnumber kids DT! And they poop and they pee, in back alleys, on lamp standards as it is. Responsible owners clean up after them.

Nature of the beast. Looking forward, very much to this park. Might even take a mickey of, umm, lemonade there on a nice summer day.

^The off-lease area will have 'dog ambassadors' to look after the area. If anyone is interested, please let DECL know (my_decl@telus.net)

LMAO,

I've sneaked a pop or two into Beaver Hills Park w/o any trouble from the urchins.

One time, I watched as cops on bicycle patrol swept in and arrested everyone in the park but me!

DECL will be hosting a park development night Wednesday Oct 14 from 6-730pm at our office, 10042-103st. We will be reviewing everything to date, organizing working committees for the community garden and off leash dog areas, as well as creating a steering committee to oversee the development and operation of the park. Please feel free to drop in and join the group.
