Certainly the ambiance of the district needs to stay in the low rise / human scale, zone. All tall buildings will kill the night life and the district as we know it. It may have tipped already.

agreed on all points. Hopefully we can keep the bare bones of what's left.

No it's not you, that column is definitely angled. That first level corner is also sagging compared to the ones above. Has to be intentional and if not, then they have a very serious problem on their hands....

As long as most of the columns on each floor are straight, I think we're good.

It looks like the ramp to get into the parking garage. I assume they designed the rest of the floors with the columns closer together, but had to spread those out a bit. I honestly like the look of it, but I'm assuming it will be all covered up when it's done.

I think that is an optical illusion because some of the concrete is sloping upward (since it is a parking garage after all)

Nope, it's real. I've seen it in person. It's bizarro.

I think they had to make the entrance to the parking garage wider and used this angled column to give a 2 lane entry / exit. If they followed through to the top totally straight vertically, it would have thrown off the rest of the design of the building, especially that corner to the roof which looks like its going to be a stairwell, probably with regulated minimum dimensions.

I see, the column is angled not inwards, but to the side, in order to make the parking entrance wider. Makes sense now.

I have a feeling the Indeed Tower (Block 71) is also going to look pretty strange as it gets around this height.

Then the tax man comes knocking and wants you to pay 2x, 3x, 4x more in taxes based on mythical, arbitrary unrealized value appreciation of your property (or the landlord passes that on to the tenant's lease). This is how we get $6 coffees, $9 beers, and $17 cheeseburger & fries. Local joints get pushed out, replaced with boring, sterile corporate chains that can absorb and spread costs around.

The Warehouse District type places, and also Rainey bungalows, will inevitably get re-created in/move to East Austin. ...and the cycle repeats
