A few Phoenix shots from this weekend

I was in town over the weekend to visit my family (not long enough to even think about putting together a meet). I snapped a few pictures that I might as well show here. Several of these are very similar to pictures I've posted before, except that they show what has changed in a couple years.

This being my first time back in Phoenix in the summer since I moved out in August '05, this was the highest temperature I'd experienced in a while. This thermometer is in the shade...

I checked out the new Camelback underpass connecting Biltmore and the Esplanade. This is long overdue, although understandably not being used much at the time of day. Sorry about the watermark... this is a high dynamic range image made with free software.

What pedestrians?

I went downtown on Monday evening

I was going to the Diamondbacks game, but a lot of people were headed to US Airways arena to see The Police in concert

Light rail lines. w00t.

Summit is looking good. I love the color, especially since it's part of a much-needed move away from traditional Phoenix brown.

The escalator suddenly stopped (and some people nearly fell), but it provided me with an opportunity to snap this picture

I went up to the very top to get some pictures of the stadium...

...and I was surprised when the roof started to open. I'd figured it was too hot for that.

Perhaps somehow anticipating the humiliating thrashing the Dbacks would get from the Devil Rays, the fan turnout was perhaps the lowest in team history.

I find it hard to believe that the team has been around for 10 years. (picture unrelated)

7th inning stretch. We left after the 8th. I don't know any of the people in this picture...

Parting shot from Tuesday evening (it sucks when a 1-hour flight is delayed by an hour and a half, but I suppose the lighting in this shot wouldn't have been as nice if we'd left on time)

Thanks for looking

Great photos! I really like that last one, its from nearly what I think is the ideal angle to show Phoenix. The best angle I think would be slightly more from the west, looking Northeast, so as to include Camelback. I don't think I've ever seen a photo quite like the one I'm imagining, but if from a high angle one could get all of downtown, up/midtown, Squaw Peak and Camelabck, that would be perfect.

Thanks for the photos Upward...I thoroughly enjoyed them. The shot from the escalator in the ballpark rotunda of Summit was inspired. Nice job keeping your camera at the ready

That last shot almost makes it seems like there is quite a bit of density DT. Nice pics.

Great!

I can't help but imagine CityScape in that gapping, ugly hole north of US Airways. Let's hope...

/\ Damn you're right... CityScape is going to MAKE downtown's skyline.

Good shots upward, especially the last one and the one of Summit through the ballpark's rotunda, as has already been mentioned.

Majerle's is such a great looking bar, I like the pics inside and out.

The Summit looks sweet. I wonder how much those colors will fade over time?

Great light on that last shot. Flying in and out of Sky Harbor is always fun.

You've got a great eye. Phoenix doesn't lack for some dramatic juxtapositions and your pics really capture it. The colors at the Summit are VIVID.

I love that last shot. As has already been mentioned, add CityScape and Central Park East to that and downtown really starts to get some density.

Maybe it was The Police concert next door.

I'm sure that didn't help, but there have been plenty other times when concerts coincided with games. I'm not sure if the attendance actually ended up being a record low or not.
