I passed by Chengdu on the way to Sichuan's glaciers last December. The city was bustling with construction and a nasty coat of smog covered the skies.

This is panda-land. You already see signs at the airport.

The panda sanctuary in the outskirts is more like a zoo with pandas only. They're fun to watch but costs a fortune to actually hold one for a photo-op.

You can still see "old Chengdu", which has been rebuilt and turned into a commercialized shopping area. Not really authentic indeed.

I love this thread. The lighting is just so right in so much of it.

These artificial shopping areas are not interesting to me. So I search for something more local, such as the street snacking scene.

Some stalls offered cultural performances, such as this puppet theatre using elaborately-decorated figurines.

There are a lot of bars though. It was a bit too cold to eat outside at the end of Decmeber.
