-Latest estimates puts BC's natural gas reserves at 1965 Trillion cubic feet of LNG - or 150+ years worth.

Oil in BC:

-Most of BC's oil is situated in Northeastern BC just like our LNG, while the rest is under our Pacific Ocean, and there's no appetite to go and get those reserves given our strong environmental sentiments.
Latest oil reserves for BC I just found are from 2007:

197 million square metres or 123.9 MMSTB - (feel free to translate)

For the record im not for or against anything in this thread. I just found some mining facts for my province and posted them. Nor am I denying the existence of the Elk Valley issue.

Now, now, that's not what I was saying about Density or anyone else. His point is valid in that much of the province portrays an image of being environmental focused and making economic decisions using environmental inputs. The truth is less clear (always is) and the fact that some industry (often out of sight) is allowed to do things that they should not.

FYI, before anyone goes apeshit on me about dumping on BC, the point of my post was that mining in Canada is key, yet miners still do stupid things - like allowing poisoning of waterways.

Full disclosure - I'm an "officier" with 4 junior mining companies so I'm all for mining, just do it right!

I was just about to start a "The Great Canadian Dollar Value Discussion Thread" which I am sure can also serve the dual purpose of being an oil industry discussion thread at the same time.

The value of our currency is an interesting topic that has impacts on real estate and infrastructure projects (stuff that, on this forum, is kinda the main topic).

Sadly due to federal economic policy for the past decade, all of this could be posted in the Calgary Local section and still be wholly on-topic.

I find this thread very peculiar.

Why is it this thread is allowed to remain open while the general Economy thread and the new thread about Oil were closed?

The Economy thread was never locked.

Agreed, it's strange to me as well. I must say I found it quite weird that they'd close the general Economy thread... almost certainly was because they happened to dislike the (off-topic) conversation that was temporarily taking place in it at the time, so I wondered why not simply tell people to drop it, and leave an Economy thread open on this forum...?

Someone's going to re-start a general Economy thread sooner or later, might as well reopen that one IMO...

Which one is that?

And BTW, if this new thread of yours is meant to be generic enough to also cover oil, wouldn't it be better to pick a more fitting thread title like for example "Resource Exploitation in Canada"?

No, drilling for oil is still mining.

I want to live,
I want to give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.

Dear Father forgive me for I have sinned.
....What is this sin my child?
I said Holy Saint Neil was mining for a heart of gold when he was really searching for it.
.....You did what Shane? You blasphemous little prick! I'd stock up on the suntan lotion if I were you because you are on the express elevator to hell. Your ass is grass, now get the hell out of my church!
