A sneak peek at the next edition of St. John's LGBT magazine, this edition dedicated to local LGBT performance artists.

And especially to the legendary Tommy Sexton. May he rest in peace.

Just want to call out one of the above people. Kelly Evans. She is spectacular. White dress:

And a tribute to Joel Hynes... who, in my opinion,is one of the hottest guys St. John's has ever produced. He's the sex addict boyfriend of Darlene from the local TV show:

One of Tommy's skits.

They were so far ahead of their time. Loves him to bits.

I don't think you could get a show like this on television even today, let alone back in the early 80s when this was airing.

The Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association just announced tonight that their Saturday headliner this year will be LeAnne Rimes. Looks like the biggest gay rodeo on Earth just got a bit bigger

LeAnne joins Ty Herndon, Kira Isabella, The Village People, Carly's Angels, Tim Hicks, and quite a few more. While the rodeo was already a great time, this year they are expecting their attendence to increase to over 8 000, up from the usual 4 500. Very excited My partner and I volunteer at this event and he competes in the rodeo itself so we know it's a very fun time! I'll be doing the rodeo school this year. The rodeo this year will be from June 25 to 28

Just heard on the radio that Ontario will house trans* inmates based on how they identify, not their anatomy. Bravo!

I have friends from as far as Texas coming It's going to be huge, the average year at the rodeo it's still the biggest in the world with people coming from over a dozen countries, but it's going to be double that this year, and the association is sparing no expense. They've even introduced payment plans to make it more accessible to younger/lower income people

The new website is up, as well as deals for tickets until the end of January http://www.argra.org/#homepage

and a Facebook post by the Town of Strathmore, the host city of the event. 30 min east of Calgary...

https://www.facebook.com/TownOfStrathmore

The performance lineup is now finalized as...

Friday:

Tim Hicks
Kira Isabella
Tebey
Ty Herndon

Saturday:

LeAnn Rimes
The Village People
Carlys Angels

Sunday:

George Canyon (as photographed in the Town of Strathmore post above)
Emerson Drive
Aaron Pritchet

It looks cool. There's something so sexy and foreign about cowboys.

It is a great time We volunteer as bar tenders every year. I have a few friends coming from the states and possibly a few more from Ottawa. This year is gonna be epic, and they're already planning next year since Canada Day falls on the Monday, they're going to go even more all-out than they are this year, as they'll have an extra day of programming to play with!

I don't see anything on the poster about the rodeo being gay.

Well the website is ARGRA, Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association, part of IGRA, the International Gay Rodeo Association.

It's an integrated music festival now. Obviously most rodeo contestants are gay but there are a lot of straight people starting to join in as well. We've gotten a lot of media coverage over the last year for the welcoming environment provided to everyone who comes

I thought that was a bit strange too. The website is the same way; the only indication on the front page is a hashtag at the very bottom saying #gaycowboy.

Why does it need to be outwardly flamboyant? I don't understand.

Since our Province does not fund sexual reassignment surgeries for trans people, and also requires them to have these surgeries in order to change their gender marker on their identification (birth certificate, drivers' license, etc.), we're reduced to this...

There are cases working their way through the courts now that are likely to change at least the latter, and allow trans individuals to legally change their gender marker regardless of surgical status.

But for now... best wishes to Dane!

It doesn't have to be flamboyant, I'm just surprised that there isn't a clearer indication that it's a gay rodeo. IGRA and ARGRA don't really mean anything to most people.

If they're going to that website, typing in those letters, chances are that they know it's a gay rodeo.

But since you asked... http://www.argra.org/about/

??? Even I wouldn't consider using the word "gay" or "LGBT" to be a matter of flamboyance. More like truth in advertising, no?

There's an entire information page about it on the website that says it and the history for several paragraphs. Hence my confusion, since he said he looked at the website. I posted the link in my previous comment.
