^ thanks -- i've always wanted to visit the silk road so we took a week and a half tour of uzbekistan in july.

you might also want to check out the threads i put up from this trip up for other uzbek cities like khiva, bukhara and samarkand.

the trip was great and we were treated very well by everyone we encountered. you do not have to, but its best to visit via an arranged tour. there are a variety of tour companies in tashkent -- we used advantour and i would recommend them.

i would like to go back someday to visit, for example, the aral sea area, the fergana valley and the big urgut market outside of samarkand.

No, I had no idea.

What an underground exotic place to go for now.
How did you even get there? This is most likely the first thread ever related to this place on here.

I want to say, some kind of Islam too is an undeniable wonderful winner.
This for instance.

That talent for geometry and ornamentations... I saw a bunch of exhibitions right here. They could do this in the Middle Ages yet, while we were completely retarded and barbaric here in Europe.

However, they should be more thankful to ancient Greeks, Persians and Indians. They stole quite a lot of these crushing achievements from the people and civilizations they enslaved from their violent conquests...

There are both absolute divinity and an ugly dark side to anything in the world, it seems. Islam is just that way, like the rest of the world to me. Amazingly smart, but also vicious to some extent.

^ true, but uzbekistan mostly needs to fix their monetary system first. its very, very, very, very, very messed up.

to answer the question how did we get there -- we flew on turkish airlines to istanbul and then on to tashkent.

our flight was actually the first american plane to land at ataturk airport again from the usa after the jihadi bombers attacked, which was nerve-racking.

inside the country we traveled by flying back across the uzbekistan from tashkent to urgench (khiva) via uzbekistan airlines.

we then flew from urgench to bukhara.

from bukhara we rode in a van to samarkand.

from samarkand we took the new spanish made talgo afrosiyob bullet train back to tashkent, which was cool.

when we left we flew back to istanbul and had a relaxing layover there for a week and half before returning home.

however...literally as soon as we got home from jfk airport the news started announcing the turkish coup attempt was in process, which was again...very unsettling!
