By now, they've probably begun to install it. The East side cant be completed until the elevator is removed. I think they plan to wrap the cladding around the north side and install the other third on the east side before the elevator is taken down.

If I'm not mistaken, it has the least amount of glass installed of the 4 sides.
Here's a view of the North side of the base. But like Hudson said, not much is going on, on that side. The East side of the base cladding has stopped due to the elevator.

Wow, it looks... still crappy - like an unfinished steel structure. I wish they would have got rid of all platforms when they decided not to have the radome; it would have looked much better imo....

Wow, that Traynor guy who did that graphic, was exactly right about which platforms were staying and which ones were going. Amazing.

What a shame. That spire is more tragic than the ground upon which the building stands. Definitely the ugliest spire in Manhattan.

It's unfortunate, but hopefully the other towers will be a distraction when they are built. The sheer size of the tower group will be an eyeful, similar to the original complex. The antenna was an afterthought, if that.

I'll say this and recuse myself from further participation in the argument:

Give me a choice between this spire and that of 4XSQ and most of you should know by now which one I'd take. I mean, if you prefer the latter on Tower One, it's your call; but eh.......

All I'm saying that this spire at least looks like a complete, symmetric, visually uniform amalgam of a carefully planned whole. 4XSQ and the old North Tower had the exact opposite feel to me.

Final 2¢.

At least, they should put a giant flag of USA (let's say, 50 meters long, 25 meters tall) at the top of the spire. That would make people forget how ugly the spire is...

And would be quite symbolic for the World Trade Center !!

I don't usually comment on these boards, but I was just in NYC a few weeks ago and saw the building myself for the first time, and I have to agree that the spire is actually not as terrible as I thought it would be.

Maybe it's just me, but seeing the building in real life, the spire was really kind of a non-entity. Nothing really draws your attention to it, either good or bad.

Is it the best spire design that could have possibly gone up at the WTC? Probaby not. Is it the crime against humanity that many people on this site thought it would be? Not really that either.
