Now all it needs is the spire to finish it off.

If it was as tall as the taller crane, it would be spectacular, as is, not bad, not bad at all. I credit their choice for the exterior. Cap and spire it and I'm happy with the way this is turning out. I think the vertical shaft on the taller crane gives a perspective on how the spire will look as far as height and visually except on the opposite side of the building. Next, it needs a few tall neighbors.

Yes. I hope Manchester moves forward with that large development at the corner of Red River and 4th. It looked to be at least 45-50 stories (as long as they don't decrease the size as they did with the Fairmont).

A few more from today.

It can just barely be seen from Auditorium Shores, at right by the tower crane.

The Red River side of the podium looks nice enough but the Cesar Chavez side is pretty underwhelming.

Holding out hope for a large LED screen on that blank wall.

If not an LED screen, then something at least....anything but blank.

Most of the renderings show it blank. The only exceptions are a few that have some small banners on one end of it or the word "Fairmont" on it.

Put a thousand Barca loungers across the street and watch some movies on that wall.

There have been three different versions of this hotel. Maybe you are still thinking of the 2011 version?

The San Diego Reader is at it again - trashing Manchester and the Fairmont because of each other's politics. The Reader is once again quoting posters (including me) in this thread for their negative article.

Well, they're not wrong. It is a pretty bland and featureless glass building with a huge blank eyesore of a wall. Pretty big disappointment compared to the original renderings.

100% agreed. To make things worse, it's an incredibly visible location. Oh well...a Fairmont is great for the city, and hopefully it will have prettier neighbors in the future.

Keith, What is the building under construction at the left edge of the top photo?

It's getting increasingly harder to get excited about another generic blue glass rectangle going up downtown, buy hey at least this one is kinda tall.
