^^^ Ooh that looks bad for a city that big and its western rival in everything. It looks like an hour before game time.

People didnt start dropping in till about 30-40 mins into the game. It had about 22,000 by halftime, not bad for a non-league Tuesday night game.

Good thing the only numbers that counted tonight was the score of both teams.

Lots of drama in all the championship games thus far, I was ready to drink but they win it with seconds to go. If Vancouver didn't do their time wasting shenanigans we wouldn't have even gotten those seconds and they'd have won it!

If not for two massive attendances in the Impact's inaugural MLS season (First match and Beckham;58,912 and 60,860 respectively) this season would likely be the best regular season for the Impact thus far. It's mostly been consistency. All eight matches have been above 20K and with nine matches still to go they have already surpassed last year's total of six matches above 20K. In 2014 they only managed to get above 20K twice (first two matches of season), so there's definitely been an improvement on that front for the Impact.

Vancouver has been making steady gains with not much to report. A slightly increased maximum attendance for the lower bowl (21,000->22,120) has aided somewhat in an increased attendance thus far. The 27,038 this season is their second-highest attendance in their history with only a 27,500 trumping it in 2011 (I think also Beckham). At their current rate they're very close to cracking 400K total on the year which would be 50K more than any of their previous seasons.

Toronto FC has seen the highest rise this season thanks to an expanded stadium and a somewhat respectable squad. Through six games they would generally sit around the 19K/20K mark with the previous two seasons sitting at 22.5K and 23.8K. TFC have hit 30K+in three matches thus far which of course was not possible in the pre-expanded BMO Field. In 2015 the team managed three matches above 30K so they've matched that with 11 home matches remaining. Their lowest attendance of 2016 thus far (24,748) is higher than 138 of their previous 145 home matches in the MLS, and higher than any match the team hosted in the MLS in their first six seasons, and only less than one match in their first eight seasons.

Montreal was struggling with attendance prior to signing Drogba. Their performance on the field had something to so with that as they had not made the playoffs the previous 2 years I believe and were pretty underwhelming prior to his arrival. Once he retires, I expect their attendance to slip below 17,000 per game on a consistent basis unless they continue posting a winning record.

Wishful thinking. The trends are clear, all MLS teams in are very healthy and growing.

Well, more than half of the MLS' clubs averaged less than 20,000 last season and the season before that. If Montreal dropped slightly below 20,000 it wouldn't make them a "problem" franchise for the league by any stretch.

I do happen to think that the MLS is ascendant and will do fine.

For the sake of comparison, the Alouettes in Montreal haven't averaged less than 20,000 in 15 years, in seasons both good and bad.

Given the good work Saputo and company are doing with L'Impact in terms of marketing (especially to youth) relative to the Alouettes, I'd expect them to continue to do at least as well at the gate as the Als have done. Add to this the global trends in favour of soccer, sustained immigration, etc. And Saputo's deep pockets and passion for the game...

Just last night I was at IGA in Gatineau and my purchase entered me in a draw to attend a game at a private loge at Saputo.

Quick non-MLS update.

Three out of the six Canadian-based PDL clubs have made it to their Conference Championship Playoffs. K-W United FC and the Thunderbay Chill both finished second in their divisions and automatically qualified for their Conference Semi-Finals. In just their second year, Foothills FC of Calgary won their division and qualifier to make it to their Conference Semi-Final.

Yet their owner complained about the declining crowds the past few seasons at Olympic Stadium. It is a concern to him.

He complained one season, when they were at the very bottom of the standings. All MLS teams in Canada are growing and now have better attendance than their local CFL teams. Not bad for franchises that have only been in the league for a few years. Even your blue bo,bers have experienced declining attendance, but keep trolling.
