Guinea Fowl are not indigenous to North America anyway. They're actually from Africa. The bird was most likely a pet that someone either lost or released. They're not even an endangered species.
This is an excellent link for researching the Rainey St neighborhood. I don't want to rehash opinions about Rainey St on this thread, but turning homes that people lived in, raised their families in, lived and died in, into bars... sad...
They are getting after it, and the single tree they ended up having to preserve is due to be moved on the 14th. They were shoving giant pipes under it to sever the roots just yesterday.
From our HOA:

We were informed by Batson-Cook Construction that on January 14th, Monday, 10:00 a.m., a large heritage tree on the construction lot will be relocated with a crane to the dog park to be developed on the lot at the southwest corner of Rainey Street and River Street.

Dog parks are no good, though. I would never take my dog to a dog park. They're a breeding ground for canine diseases. They also limit that land to dog only activities.

I think they're good for socializing dogs and giving them (and their owners) a place to go where there's activity unrelated to eating or drinking. Our dogs have never had an issue from the park on Riverside.
