Love the density, hate the facade. The Hyatt sure isn't wasting time putting on the facade.

Thats True, The folks who bought the business ( Whitley Printing, who happen to live in our building) are giving some artifacts from the original building that are to be displayed in the lobby.

I like that a little history will be kept. It was not significant structure, but it was a large downtown business for years. What would be realy cool is if there were some artifacts from the old car dealership that occupied the building before Whitley!

These shots were taken Saturday, August 4th.

Looking south on San Jacinto, with the Hyatt Place rising behind it

Looking west on 3rd Street. Hyatt Place is on the left.

3rd and San Jacinto

Nice. This is going to be one cozy corner of downtown.

You know this pocket of density is going to be surrounded by taller bldgs in all four directions especially if the Waller Creek hotel gets built east of the convention center. Once all the dust settles, this is going to be a stunning area of dt. From street level, there will be numerous buildings rising above the dense low rises for quite a dramatic effect. With the expected development along Waller Creek, the Convention Ctr next door, 6th Street a few blocks to the north and the lake a few blocks to the south, living in these new condos may be the best seat in the house.

I think it's topped out. Anyone know for sure? I saw it tonight, but wasn't able to count the floors. It looked like they had even topped off the mechanical penthouse.

I just got back from downtown and by my count they are almost done with the 15th floor deck, so one more floor and the roof before it's topped off. While this is not going to have much of an impact on the skyline it's already looking pretty imposing from street level mainly because of it's width from East to West.

Finally some good shots from I-35. I'd been trying for several days. A few shots from August 18th, 22nd and 24th.

Thank you Kevin! We seldom get to see downtown from this side unless we're on 35, and the new construction shows up nicely. I'm thinking the Hyatt Place will look nice at night when lit up.

I think this may finally be topped out.

Looking up San Jacinto from 2nd.

And from 4th and Colorado it does add some density to the skyline.

I guess it is. They'll still build the mechanical penthouse on the east side which will add another 10 to 12 feet.

Framework for the mechanical penthouse.

Note the tree on the roof on the left (west) side.

Their website is up: http://whitleyaustin.com/

They also have a construction time lapse video. Go to that link and click on "Video".
