Does anyone know if there is a map-based resource that shows numbers of deployed tower cranes, available tower cranes, etc? Would be interesting to see the balance of supply and demand to identify hot growth regions (which might not all be obvious).

Something like this is for oil rigs maybe:

considering all the activity south of the lake/river lately, I've been wondering about two particular projects that I think were mentioned here in passing but I haven't heard much about as of late: 801 and 1155 Barton Springs Road.

According to this particular blog, both saw a revival of activity at some point in 2013, and as I've gotten a feel for this city, I see Lamar, Barton Springs and Riverside as three corridors that could do fabulously with some consistent density along their respective runs through near south Austin. It's happening already, but now more than ever I'm pulling for it to continue Especially surrounding Butler Park, which is situated particularly well to become jewel-boxed in by substantial mid-rise development.

Hotel Granduca Austin - RM 2244 & Loop 360

While not a development downtown, this new luxury hotel should make a significant impact in SW Austin...
Quote:
Construction is due to start Monday on a 9-story luxury hotel that will change the face of a wooded hilltop at a prime Southwest Austin location.

The Hotel Granduca Austin will feature 194 guest rooms, along with massage rooms, a fitness center, pool, a billiards and game room and lush gardens. A paved two-lane entrance road is already under construction at the 38-acre site, which is just north of the building that houses Dimensional Fund Advisors at Bee Cave Road (RM 2244) and Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360).

That is an awesome shot! It appears to be taken from Silicon Labs.

I remember reading that the City of Austin was going to have to lease some office space in the Silicon Labs Building due to the additional employees required now that we'll have 10 council members. Is this from the offices that some of those City employees will be taking over?

The city is leasing the space in the building on the other side of city hall, so they won't have a view of this. This is the building on San Antonio, of course, and it is all Silicon Labs except for one floor which is leased by Page Sutherland Page.

Design has evolved…... but what I LOVE is the angle in the building due to the CVC. Now that we are getting buildings that are obviously affected by it... it's cool to look…..from places like the Pedestrian bridge and see them line up !
Actually. so many building that would have been just blocks have become more interesting as an unintentional byproduct of the CVCs. ( Note, this is not a commerical or a debate about CVC's just a positive observation of the by product.

Yes, I'm also liking the way they frame the Capitol and lead your eye to it. There are a lot of people on Facebook complaining about the views of the Capitol being somewhat blocked now, but the protected views are going to be so much more interesting now that they're being framed. And to me it's going to make the Capitol seem that much more important.

I posted this in the compilation thread, but since there are so many Austin threads I thought I would stick it here also in case it wasn't noticed in the other thread. I've been trying to keep up with Austin's U/C and proposed projects. Here are two lists I put together. If anybody sees anything I need to update or add, let me know. (I'm not bothering with mid-rises and developments outside of Downtown, because who has time for that?)

Here's the U/C & S/P list:

Here's the list of proposals:

12 under construction with 21 more in the pipeline. If just half of the proposals move forward in the next six months our skyline is going to look like Dubia with all the cranes.

...except our high rises are filling up as soon as they are completed.
