The SSP database shows Chicago has 29 towers over 700 feet, 25 are real and 4 of them are proposals:

Toronto has 37 towers over 700 feet, 15 are real and 22 are proposals:

It feels like we are closing in sometimes, and sometimes it feels like we are not closing in on Chicago at others.

An under construction tower development that is barely higher than the ground is not real either.

Rendered Towers are virtually proposals. Towers that have been approved are virtually under construction. Towers that have broken ground are virtually built. There's going to be a very hard reality check some day.

Don't be too picky about the numbers... the point is that Toronto has tons more proposals and a lot less built than Chicago does.

Is that some sort of hint that a bunch of towers currently U/C will become "stumps" like Bay-Adelaide was for all those years?
Even if that happens, as of right now, they are still U/C and if things stay the same, they will be very real towers in a year or so...

Yeah, these towers that have barely risen out the ground aren't guaranteed to be built as proposed. It has happened many times before. You can't predict 5 plus years from now. Remember 2008 and Waterview? Asia is also full of stumps. (keep in mind they are one of the key orchestrators in Chicago, Toronto and, Canada) There's been more than a few over the years in Toronto as well. The sites eventually did get developed but usually with revised development plans. Right now, there are a few that are in financial crisis. On The Go in Mimico did even stalled out as of a few months ago. (don't know the current status)

Treating under construction the same as built (i.e. real) is just to pad Toronto's status. Humorously, it actually works against Toronto as there are topped out towers here.

My personal definition of "Real" includes topped out towers... they really are there, sometimes dominating the skyline... look at 1 Bloor, just because it's still listed as under construction, you're saying it isn't there? 88 Scott is another one. Is that not real either? Give me a break...

Towers that really are holes in the ground I agree with you, they should be treated with skepticism until they are well on their way into the sky.

Then there is a half-way point somewhere in-between. The tower is half built, and doesn't dominate, but it still has quite a presence on the skyline... Telus Sky is at that point now in Calgary. Ten York is beyond that point and is closing in on 200 metres tall now...

Whoa there. My definition of built includes topped out towers as well. 3 of 5 under construction in Toronto are topped out. 0 of 3 are topped out in Chicago. As I said, this is one of those times it works against Toronto to not differentiate between built and under construction.

Looks good, except for Burano, it's falling over!

Not easy to tell since they are all the same color, but most of the big proposals are in there, but not all of them.
No 385 Yonge, or the Chelsea Gardens twins, or the LCBO site on Lake Shore...

I'm getting so lazy lately. Not even visiting some of my favorite threads.

You can see here in the future, Toronto will definitely bulk up.

Working on adding the latest One Yonge model to the render...

Classic view from the lake, with all of the major towers showing, including The One and One Bloor, YSL and Aura and the Chelsea Gardens twins, and the big ones along Lake Shore Blvd...

Some new renders today... I've pretty much finished up the King West area, and have moved to Davisville and surroundings.
