Yes, they will be disappears. I think they will have to build new concourse or terminal. Don't they have more gate space available? How about Western terminal? Will they have FIS at terminal 1, 2, 3? I think some airlines will have to moved.

I got a good view of it landing on 27R yesterday afternoon. Light poles appear to be down and there is an excavator doing something. No boring equipment in evidence at the time.

instead of a Western Terminal, a better location would be the north/east side
nearby the new people mover/garage Plus Metra transfer

The large Aeroterm cargo facility is currently under construction there.

In all likelihood the western suburbs would show up at the meetings for any such eastern satellite terminal bearing torches, pitchforks, and nooses.

The Elgin-O'Hare is already under construction to the West Terminal site.

It would be a waste to build a whole new set of infrastructure for a new terminal on the east side.

The only concern I have about the West Terminal is inter-terminal transfers, but I've always thought the problem could be solved inexpensively if you planned the airfield around a surface busway. The busway would be secureside with enclosed heated shelters like the one at Heathrow, so travelers could go through security on whichever side of the airport was most convenient, then take the bus over to each terminal on the west side.

Yes that is an upgrade. Load factors have been very good out of ORD this year, both domestic and international. We could handle even more people if they had bigger domestic and international terminals. We have 35+ international carriers coming into ORD, yet we have zero A380 gates!!

Compare that to ATL or DFW who both get A380's. Get with it Chicago DOA!! Stop letting AA and UA sandbag on building new terminals.

6 parrallel runways and four crosswinds. They close two, that leaves, 8 runways. Very impressive operation. Of course, you are the busiest airfield now in the world.

The terminals leave a lot to be desired though.

You need something along these lines in Chicago, befitting your city and the busiest airfield.

I wonder if they had their airport staff dress up like the Blues Brothers again - like when they originally launched the route.

O'Hare opens new runway

The city of Chicago and about 500 enthusiastic invited guests heralded the opening Thursday of a new runway at O'Hare International Airport.

Officials from the city, airlines and Federal Aviation Administration all predicted substantial efficiency and capacity gains at delay-plagued O'Hare, even though the new runway will handle only 5 percent of all daytime flights annually over the next five years, according to the FAA.

The almost $10 billion modernization program at O'Hare "will make sure Chicago stays on the global stage," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

All the runways in the world won't help if you have no place to park the airplanes. Although some terminals are not completely maxed out more terminals are long overdue for expansion. Wake up DOA.

Evans has flat out said she intends to address gate space soon. She'll have more leverage over United and American with gate leases expiring in 2018 and this phase of the OMP wrapped up.

Of course the FAA diagram still shows runway 14L/32R as being open...but this is the FAA though. It takes a while for them to get their heads out of their asses.

I had hoped this would make more of an impact than only handling 5% of flights for half a billion $$, but I get it that it's going to be used at peak times and when things aren't ideal - so even though it's 5%, hopefully that 5% is used when it would otherwise be creating a lot of delays.
