Does SLC even need a new airport? Where is this & how far away is it from the current airport? It doesn't look very big.

The new terminal and concourse are being built adjacent to the existing ones and then the old terminals will be torn down and some of the old concourse will be grafted into the new one (most of it will be torn down). It will be up to earthquake and safety standards and it will be expandable (unlike the current airport). It's set up for a second concourse that will be accessible via underground transit like Denver and Atlanta.

They have it worked out so that in 2020 they can choose to jump into construction of the second concourse or they can hold off (depending mostly on the financial situation of Delta Airlines).
