Lufthansa Technik Group to Grow Engine Business with Aerolineas Argentinas

Aerolineas Argentinas and Lufthansa Technik (LHT) have signed an exclusive five years agreement for maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the fleet of CFM56-5C engines powering Aerolineas' seven Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

For the CFM56-7 engine type Lufthansa Technik and Aerolineas Agentinas agreed to set-up a Joint Shopvisit Program under which, depending on workscopes, the airline will tear the engines down into modules in Buenos Aires, while the repairs will be then carried out at LHT's facilities in Hamburg. Lufthansa Technik will also oversee the setting up of a new engine shop, with the assistance of layout, equipment and the creation of the basic infrastructure and establishment of processes down to the necessary logistics.

Furthermore, LHT will support Aerolineas Argentinas with fundamental staff training for the new engine types.

"LHT's extensive experience with the CFM56 engines, a comprehensive 'smart.life' services concept, based on LHT's Enhanced Performance Improvement programs in combination with individual customized Life Extension Workscopes at competitive prices and the known reliability and quality together with a good understanding of the operational requirements made them our first choice after a thorough selection process. We know we can count on LHT's support and flexibility to ensure we provide our customers with the reliability and high quality of service they expect from Aerolineas Argentinas," said Christian Landriscina, Vice President - Production of Aerolineas Argentinas.

"This contract is the next chapter in the long lasting relationship between Lufthansa Technik and Aerolineas Argentinas. Since nearly two decades the Lufthansa Technik group supports Aerolineas Argentinas in various fields of MRO, e.g. engines, components and base maintenance", says Joerg Femerling, VP Sales for Latin America at Lufthansa Technik.

Besides the newly signed agreement, LHT already cooperates with Aerolineas Argentinas on CFM56-7 MRO for their strong fleet of 38 Boeing 737NG, as well as CF34-10 engines for Austral's fleet of 22 Embraer 190 aircrafts. Austral is Aerolineas Argentinas major regional airline in South America.

Airbus establishes first maintenance training collaboration in South America, with Aerolineas Argentinas

Airbus and Aerolineas Argentinas have signed a strategic agreement to establish the first Airbus maintenance training collaboration in South America at the airline’s facilities in Buenos Aires. The venture will deliver maintenance and engineering training services for A320, A330 and A340 aircraft and will implement Airbus’ training standards, including its dynamic trainers and teaching techniques. The agreement will also provide Argentina’s flagship airline with Airbus ‘original equipment manufacturer’ (OEM)-backed maintenance training capabilities to its personnel, as well as to third-party customers in the region.

Besides integration of Aerolineas Argentinas instructors to the Airbus Maintenance Training Organization Exposition (MTOE), the agreement will also include access to Airbus courseware, instruction media, virtual tools and real aircraft practice. This collaboration will therefore enable Aerolineas Argentinas to deliver the highest standards of engineering training to their own technical staff and to third-party airline customers.

“Providing our crews with Airbus’ best-in-class maintenance training gives Aerolineas huge advantages,” said Pablo Ceriani, Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Aerolineas Argentinas. “We look forward to the opportunity to capture key business opportunities in the region by extending these services to other airlines and maintenance organizations, and are glad to be working with Airbus to contribute to the development of quality training standards in the Latin America region.”

“We are pleased to expand our services footprint in Latin America” said Didier Lux, Head of Airbus Customer Services. “Teaming-up with Aerolineas Argentinas is a major milestone to deliver Training by Airbus in the region, ensure even more efficient service, support and proximity to our customers.”

Aerolineas Argentinas first started its relationship with Airbus in 1994 with operation of the A310-300 aircraft. In February, Argentina’s flagship airline took delivery of its first of four new Airbus A330-200s to modernize and consolidate its wide body fleet. Today, the carrier operates 14 Airbus wide body aircraft, six A330s and eight A340s.
