I cant wait to see the finished product! There are over 15 buildings under construction or proposed that are at least 20 stories in The Galleria, Energy Corridor, and Downtown! If only downtown was planned better though. Downtown would seem so much better if there were thin cobblestone streets for pedestrians only, and if all the streets in general weren't so wide. A downtown shouldn't be a grid.

Better rendering from swamplot:

AND HERE’S what BHP Billiton Petroleum’s new 30-story tower might look like. The company announced yesterday that construction will begin at 1500 Post Oak in November on the fifth skyscraper at Four Oaks Place; the proposed 560,000-sq.-ft. building, going up where a vacant 24-Hour Fitness now sits, will be connected by a skybridge to the company’s existing 1360 Post Oak building.

This will be across the street from Astoria...

They are actually building FEWER apartments than they are tearing down and building a ton of retail space. Frankly, I think that's stupid. They should be doing the exact opposite. Apartments are filling up as quickly as they come on line, but retail is harder to fill (just ask West Avenue which is in a better location than this project... mostly because this project competes more directly with Highland Village and The Galleria being right in between those two).
They are building fewer apartments, but the overall picture is that there is a lot of apartments being built in this general vicinity. You have all the apartments going up west in Uptown and east in greenway plaza. Also there are more garden style apartments directly north of this to knock over and add more apartments.

This location is great, north of Westheimer was/is getting very dense in this area east of 610.

A very awesome PDF update on the status of the office market in the Houston metro, includes all the major employment centers. It's a pretty long read but well worth it.

All the construction in Houston is very exciting, although I think the city can handle a boom as big as Dubai and it's tall buildings...

Another biggie - but it's a petrochemical plant expansion. 10,000 jobs, though, during construction.
