Why is Nickelback loathed so much more than similarly talent-challenged, repetitive, uncreative bands out there? I find them to actually be one of the more bearable forms of Can-con rock.

Maybe it's the lyrics to this song:

Theory of a Deadman are very similar to Nickelback, but are a lot worse, they should get more criticizm, every song they have is about the same damn thing.

So many far more creative and intelligent bands out there. Nickelback's success escapes all logic. Most other unbearable bands are wannabe Nickelback's (call the genre "Theory of a Nickel Creed") and the kids can't distinguish it from any other music, but it's played 10x a day on the rock station, so it's gotta be cool... right?

If the rock stations here are any indication, there are maybe only 30 bands in the history of rock that are cool, and they only had 3-4 cool songs each.

And unfortunately, they say Nickelback is one of them.

^nickelback has only one song. Doesn't matter what it is called, it is the same song, and it is awful. Just like Bon Jovi (I'm gonna live my life the way I want bullshit, everytime).

Agreed. And then there is the mother of all steaming piles, Default.

Anyways, we all know that the 35% Can-con rule leads to the overplaying of certain very mainstream, very mediocre Canadian acts. But in my opinion, there are far worse offenders than Nickelback.

Nickelback is a legitimately big rock band, they have sold something like 30 million records worldwide. I would hesitate to call them Can-con, same with 3 days grace and Sum 41, they have all acheived big success worldwide. David Usher and Thornley are better examples of Can-con IMO.

What do people think of guys like Dallas Green? Alexisonfire may not be your favorite, but they have had pretty surprising success both locally and internationally, City and Colour as well.

It's unbelievable all the repetitive shit played on radio stations. X929 is one of the better ones. At least the songs they repeat are a little less mainstream and unique.

X92.9 is the only station I listen to in Calgary, ironically they have the no Nickelback guarantee. lol

True. When I lived in the States, I swear the rock stations there played as much Nickelback as the ones here. They are huge down there.

Alexisonfire isn't my kind of music, but I definitely like City and Colour.

Not all Canadian acts are mediocre...I blame repetitive Cancon on the radio on lazy station programmers.

Of the 2 rock stations in Fredericton, one seems better than the other at using local/regional talent to fill its Cancon quota, and almost all of it is better than Nickelback/ToaD/etc...I don't know why more stations don't do that.

That sounds like CJAY 92 in Calgary, T.O.A.D and Nickelback comprise 95% of their Can-con.

/\Yes, and with a rotation of the same 3 Tragically Hip songs thrown in to appease us older guys. CJAY is such a mediocre radio station, it drives me absolutely NUTS.
