In a couple of views from the UT tower, the brown building with no windows and a large dish on top is the communications building where Austin City Limits is taped!

Great set of photos here that one of the other Austin forumers found on flickr.

Frost Bank Tower. On cloudy and foggy nights the lights from the building's crown make some interesting shapes in the clouds. The square shape in the sky is the result of the 4 points of the crown.

The Pennybacker Bridge crossing the Colorado River (Lake Austin) in West Austin. If you look to where the kid is pointing, you can see downtown.

The photos by loudtiger and Straight-No Chaser are the most beautiful shots of Austin I've ever seen. I really like the shot of Auditorium Shores (I wonder what's happening on the 1st Street bridge in that shot?).

And that night shot is my new desktop.

Yep. The University of Texas at Austin. It's the third largest univeristy in the U.S. behind Ohio State and the University of Minnesota.

Yep. UT. Between 48,000 and 50,000 students with 20,000 employees. It's almost like a separate city. It's located immediately north of downtown.

A few shots of the Lakewind Water Tower. Yes, water tower. This was a dilapidated water tower on Lake Travis in West Austin. It sits on a hill overlooking Mansfield Dam and the 620 Bridge across the Colorado River. The 157 foot tower was restored in 2000 and a lantern room was added to the top to make it appear as a lighthouse. It also got a new paint job. The tower is also lit with a beacon that fades in and out to make it appear that it's rotating.

It is most famous for being the place where Austin City Limits is currently being filmed. Has been filmed there for years. Sad to say they changed the cladding of the building, really loved the Corten.

What is Corten? Has the cladding been changed since the photo was taken? I haven't actually seen it in quite some time.

I was noticing how much downtown has changed just since the bulk of these photos were taken. Sure looks a lot better these days!

Cor-ten (or corten) is a weathering steel alloy. It was developed to eliminate the need for painting. The steel forms a protective layer on its surface under the influence of the weather.

Austin before and after

The two photos below were taken near the Zilker Club House in West Austin. The first one was taken in about 1985, and the 2nd one was taken just a few days ago.
