I saw this article about 20 minutes ago in the paper, and I was also going to create a GRT thread. I'm thrilled that we're getting $200,000 more this year, but I wonder if this will be used for more expansion next year.

For the past few days, the friendly people from GRT were at St. Mary's High School for bus pass photos. Although I don't have a bus pass, they were giving out free blue GRT cups (beat that YRT ). Basically, it's a large cup, and here's some of the stuff it says on it. "Coming soon! easyGo" It also talks about the online trip planner, the large flat screens, real-time departure info for the Ixpress, and the next bus call. It also says "Watch for NEW texting feature". Looks like the future at GRT is promising.
Sorry, no pics.

Except that i've seen "coming soon EasyGO" since august . Regarless, money is always good, maybe it'll help us buy some rapid transit vehicles.

I do think that 1am is too early. I was in Toronto, and many people only started going on the subway at around 12:30 am. I know Toronto is much larger than us, and their transit demands are higher, but if limited service is provided here, than the car will still dominate in this region.

Couldn't agree more. Public transit is a great alternative to the "hard to find" taxis after last call on NYE.

The longer I live here, the more I'm proud to call Waterloo Region home. GRT is finally becoming a good system. I particularily like the grid bus system.

And I see that they're looking into connecting Elmira to Waterloo in 2009.

I bet Elmiraguy will be really happy about that. Whatever happened to him anyway?

Let's guess on what'll happen this coming fall for GRT.
Besides 15 minute Ixpress midday frequency, I'm predicting that a new route will be created in Waterloo, linking the Bridge/Lexington/RIM Park area, with the growing west end.

With Kitchener, I'm guessing that the 10, 16 and 22 will get addition service, as well as the creation of a few routes in southern Kitchener.

For Cambridge, I'm guessing that route 52 will get increased frequency during rush-hour. I didn't really take a good look at Cambridge so far.

What do you guys think?

^ Ah shit. So much for deciding not to get a parking pass this term.
