Good synopsis of the whole stadium saga and some reasons why the Argo sale and move to BMO took so long

Naylor: Move to BMO last chance for Argos 'tribe'

TSN Drive host, Dave Naylor joins Macko and Cauz to discuss Bell and Larry Tannenbaum's new ownership deal with the Argos, the move to BMO Field, and the tensions between the TFC and the CFL that date back to before BMO Field was built.

High level amateur footy returned to Calgary over the weekend. Foothills FC seems to have a very well thought out approach and will be looking to continue building their club from the ground up. Their approach was evident in the play of their players who kept the ball on the carpet and played a pressing, quick tempo, short passing game.

Calgary Foothills S.C. started off as neighbourhood club competing against other local clubs in the city. Since there were numerous clubs, a lot of them went with colours aside from red, white or black. Foothills is a club, not a franchise.

Michael Sam signs with Montreal Alouettes of CFL
ESPN.com news services

The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League have signed defensive end Michael Sam to a two-year deal, the team announced Friday.

"With the signing of Michael Sam, we have become a better organization today," Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said in a release. "Not only have we added an outstanding football player, we have added even a better person that brings dignity, character, and heart to our team."

The Alouettes have held the exclusive CFL rights to Sam, the first openly gay player to be selected in the NFL draft, since his senior year at Missouri, when he was the SEC co-defensive player of the year.

"I am very excited and proud to join the Montreal Alouettes," Sam said in a statement. "... I cannot wait to put on the pads, get back on the field and work hard each and every day with my teammates to bring a Grey Cup to the great fans here in Montreal."

Sam was taken by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 draft but didn't make the team. He has been a free agent since the Dallas Cowboys released him from their practice squad Oct. 21.

He had said during the NFL veterans combine on March 22 -- where he clocked 4.99 seconds in the 40-yard dash -- that Montreal was still an option.

Sam will be introduced by the Alouettes at a news conference on Tuesday.

So what happens Canada's 2026 World Cup bid in the wake of all these arrests at FIFA?

Hopefully Canada doesn't give a cent to the most corrupt sports organization in the world.

With its corrupt power structure, FIFA can stick to the sketchy likes of Russia and Qatar. Canada would do well to copy England's policy in relation to World Cup bids, as articulated by the FA chairman:

“But at the moment the policy is straightforward: we don’t bid while Mr Blatter’s there.”

Spending loads of public money on an event presented by an organization widely known to be corrupt is indefensible.

I would think it helps, since there'll be pressure for a less corrupt jurisdiction after totalitarian and corrupt regimes such as Qatar and Russia hosting. That being said, it's anybody's guess.

All of which is very unfortunate as it's such an awesome event (corruption aside).

I desperately hope something sticks on Blatter. Let one of the Vice Presidents who were arrested snitch on him just in time for the elections.

Swilers RFC from St. John's won the Charron Cup, defeating three-time champs Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue from Quebec. And they did it in their republican flag uniforms.

Just need a brand new stadium in Toronto for any chance of it happening.
