25,000-30,000 tourists a year in a tiny town no one had heard of before.

Everyone in Quebec knows this town because of this guy, who is a household name.
I remember seeing his photo about 9 years ago on a tourism booklet for Mauricie Region. Had to look up what he was all about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he appears to be a strong Quebec nationalist/sovereigntist who only caters to Quebeckers through his works. Perhaps the next generation's version of Victor-Lévy Beaulieu or Gilles Vigneault?

There is even a statue dedicated to him!

Plus he represents what is best in Montreal - hardcore working class neighborhoods filled with triplexes

He's certainly not the firebrand type like VLB and Vigneault. I've never heard him say anything about the issue but people with his profile tend to be for the Oui it is true.

As for his work being targeted at Québec well... He tells tall tales in French about a small village in Quebec. The market for that is what it is. Though he has had some success in France.
