It looks like there is some kind of construction elevator moving up and down inside the southeast corner of the core.

sort of. There's an internal lift up to the 18th floor right now - from there the guys working on the core have to climb about 10 flights. Everyone else is fine though.

(i know guys who are shooting the building, visited it this AM)

For those interested/in the vicinity/or working in the comcast center - they are raising the CITC crane right now (3:13pm EST).

Which one? They already jumped the west side steel crane. That leaves the core crane and the east steel crane.

It is really a shame they cannot pay attention to the CITC web cam. It has been frozen for over a week. The adjacent ads seem to get updated regularly though.
