Perimeter is going to only 1 daily flight to Dauphin this month, and dropping the route altogether come January.

Interesting. ... but considering it's a small town that's a four hour drive away, I wouldn't consider it altogether surprising.

Who knows... Air Canada is always rejigging something with their flight schedule. In real world terms, I presume this means that AC is downgauging the current E190 to something smaller?

They were at the Million Air hanger in YYC. Has this changed?

(Sorry Winnipeg, I don't mean to be off topic here in terms of location, but I don't know how to move quotes to different threads.)

Probably a strategic shift. People may be connecting more in Calgary, Toronto, and quite obviously, Minneapolis.

That's strange, considering that YVR-YWG flights are always busy and almost always full, mainly because Vancouver is the gateway to Asia from Canada.

New Leaf will make it's debut at YWG very soon. Apparently, their fleet will consist of 737s.

Perhaps they will downsize from 90 seat aircraft to 75 seat ones and add a flight?

New passenger numbers are in for the third quarter. Still all positive increases.

http://www.waa.ca/waa/about/publications

From 2014 to this year for the first 9 months total passenger numbers are up 3.6% to a total of 2876221 (2014 was 2777234). If this continues 2015 will see a total of 3800412, which is again a record number! Passed Halifax last year to take 7th biggest airport in Canada based on passenger stats. Next up Ottawa!

Here is a link to the WAA pdf stats.

^ Not spectacular year over year growth, but still impressive considering the current economic climate. YWG has set all time monthly highs for every month so far this year.

It looks like transborer is really suffering. That explains the cuts from United, I suppose.

I would suspect that the lower dollar, which is down to 75 cents USD has also has effected this. Canadians travelling to the US has dropped in general.

And yet, for the first four months of the year, the numbers of transborder passengers remained pretty consistent with other years. Seems to me that Winnipeggers are still headed south during the winter months. It was the summer months where there was a huge decrease in passengers. I was surprised to see the low numbers for June when the World Cup was here- I would have thought the numbers would have been buoyed by that event.

^ I was thinking the same thing re: June, but I guess the reality is that there is only so much capacity with a handful of small regional jets flying every to MSP, ORD and DEN. When I've been on those flights, load factors are typically very high... there isn't much room for many more. While we don't know how much revenue the flights are pulling in, it can't be that bad given that we haven't lost any service over the past year other than what, losing 1 of the daily ORD frequencies?

Also, doing a quick glance at the numbers, it looks like 2014 was an unusually good year for transborder... 2015 has settled more in line with what we saw earlier this decade.

That said, I think having access to a new hub in the US would be the biggest-single difference maker in terms of traveller convenience... for instance, having 2 flights a day to any one of DTW, ATL, IAH, SFO, LAX, EWR would make a much bigger difference to more people than the weekly flight to LGW, especially if it were on an airline or alliance that doesn't currently serve Winnipeg (i.e. AA/oneworld).

I think a lot of the World Cup spectators drove up here.

^ True. And also, I'd be willing to bet that a substantial portion of Americans who came up here flew in via domestic hubs (YYZ, YVR, YYC) if for no other reason than because there would be far more seats and options that way. End result is that many of the Americans who attended FIFA WWC will show up in the domestic count.

I flew American Airlines for the first time this weekend. I've now decided that they can stay out. Air Canada and Westjet have always been good to me l, Delta almost as much so. I've never had such a bad experience with outright rude and disinterested staff as I did on American.

^ I wouldn't judge an airline by an isolated experience on one flight, who knows if you got a FA in a snarly mood because the car broke down that morning or whatever. I've seen good and bad service on several airlines. Having another competitive option in the market is a big deal.
