Updated first page. When counting spires, New York is approaching 30 supertalls.

2 Hudson Boulevard: 62 floors
1 Vanderbilt: 65 floors
1 Hudson Boulevard: 47 floors

Quite the disappointment.

Both 2HB and 1V will hardly break the 350m mark. And we should be happy if 1HB rises over 200m.

All those big lots (1V, 2HB, 15Penn etc.) have so much sq ft, yet developers decide to go mediocore. I beginning to wonder who's got the cojones to propose something really bold (100 stories+). Sure, New York will be a forest of supertalls but at this moment there's not a single tower which will stand out heightwise.

1 more possible project: Vornado owns 50 W 57th and that could very well end up as a supertall.

And does anyone have guesses as to where Schvo's tower might be?

Yeah, it certainly could be a supertall.

^ Ah so we may have another battle like with 220 cps and Nordstrom, but with a 100 story tower in front of it Vornado will have some trouble.

I just did a quick research on 400m+ towers, and I was quite surprised. About 20 cities in China (will) have taller towers than New York & Chicago in the works, that's nuts. Some of those cities are just regional hubs ... see for yourself:

- Changsha: Sky City, 2749ft (838m), in prep
- Suzhou: Suzhou Zhongnan Center, 2297ft (700m+), in prep
- Shenzhen: Ping An Finance Center, 2165ft (660m), u/c
- Wuhan: Wuhan Greenland Center, 2087ft (636m), u/c
- Shanghai: Shanghai Tower, 2073ft (632m), u/c
- Tianjin: Goldin Finance 117, 1957ft (597m), u/c
- Shenyang: Pearl of the North, 1854ft (565m), in prep
- Jinan: The Evergrande International Finance Center, 1837ft (560m), in prep
- Guangzhou: The CTF Guangzhou, 1739ft (530m), u/c
- Beijing: Zhongguo Zun, 1732ft (528m), u/c
- Dalian: Dalian Greenland Center, 1699ft (518m), in prep
- Zhuhai: Hengqin Headquarters Tower 2, 1608ft (490m), in prep
- Hong Kong: International Commerce Centre, 1588ft (484m), completed
- Chongqing: Chongqing International Financial Center, 1542ft (470m), in prep
- Chengdu: Greenland Center, 1535ft (468m), in prep
- Ningbo: ARA City Light, 1493ft (455m), in prep
- Haikou: Hainan International Exchange Square. 1483ft (452m), in prep
- Nanjing: Zifeng Tower, 1476ft (450m), completed

And don't get me started on the proposed / approved ones ... the list would be tl/dr.

So compared to Chinese cities it's clear that New York skyscrapers still lack in height. I'm not saying it's a competition here (Western cities don't really have the need) but it would be awesome to have at least a solid 500m+ tower in the city.

^Yes it would. I have a feeling we're gonna see plenty more supertall proposals in the next few years.

I'm wondering when we're gonna see more towers in southern midtown. Right now 57th st and HY are booming with proposals and soon so will Downtown and East Midtown.

I don't think we'll see anything supertall rise in the near future south of Madison Park or adjacent to the King for that matter.

Still, I think it's more important to get a real signature tower rather than another "mediocore" supertall. I know I'm spoiled lol.

I think we'll get supertalls in both areas, eventually. Fifth Ave. has the zoning, as does Madison Square Park area.

It can be done. They'll have to go super-skinny though. Gotta preserve that allowable developable square feet for the higher floors.

^I have a feeling that if and when we see towers in that area they will be skinny residential ones so they don't detract attention of the ESB.

Yes, I agree. They would have to be very skinny anyways, due to the zoning rights.

Aaaand ... another one back from the dead! (financing secured, machinery already on site)

--> 50 West Street, 714ft+ 63fl+.

New York is unstoppable. The city is in a league of its own.
